Recently, pornographic livestreaming applications have exploited loopholes in the TikTok social network to spread information and reach users. These platforms continuously entice users to download the app to participate in gambling, betting, and watch 18+ content.

Furthermore, these are all pirated and unlicensed applications. When installed, these apps request a range of different access permissions to sensitive data on the phone, such as images, videos , and the camera.
Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Mr. Dao Hoang Anh, a cybersecurity expert at SCS Cybersecurity Joint Stock Company, said that when an application requests access to photo libraries, contacts, camera, and microphone, the biggest risk to users is the potential violation of their privacy.
"When users agree to grant access, malicious actors can collect and steal personal information such as images, videos, audio, or even banking applications to commit theft or carry out unauthorized transactions," Mr. Hoang Anh said.
Specifically, malicious actors can collect images, videos, audio, and personal information and then silently send them to servers for distribution. This data is often uploaded via a hidden network connection in the background without the user's knowledge.
Malicious applications can silently collect and copy data to extort money, carry out scams, or spread sensitive information about victims.
Furthermore, pirated apps are fully capable of accessing SMS messages and OTP codes if users inadvertently grant access or install apps from untrusted sources.

Experts advise users to absolutely avoid installing pirated applications to prevent security risks (Photo: The Anh).
On Android phones, this risk is higher because the system allows installing apps outside the official app store. Meanwhile, the iOS operating system has stricter control mechanisms, so it's less likely to happen, except in cases where the device has been jailbroken or has a security vulnerability.
"When malicious actors gain access to read OTPs, they can exploit this to log into bank accounts, change passwords, make withdrawal transactions, or steal e-wallets. The danger is very serious because OTPs are the final crucial authentication layer protecting users."
"To prevent this, users should absolutely avoid installing unfamiliar applications, not grant permission to read messages to unnecessary applications, and regularly update their operating system to avoid risks," Mr. Hoang Anh recommended.
