Stage 24 took place on a 172km journey from Ben Tre City to Tay Ninh City. Thanks to not being tied down on the individual rankings, the duo Nguyen Nhut Phat and Huynh Nguyen Dang Khoa (Military Zone 7) made a spectacular breakthrough.
Right after the first sprint point, when the larger group was still cautious, the two riders coordinated their efforts to break away. With their combined efforts, they not only shared the prizes along the way in the second and third sprints, but also maintained a gap of more than 4 minutes over the larger group behind.
Thanks to the large group behind not actively chasing, they reached the finish line together. In Tay Ninh City, with a more impressive sprint, Nguyen Nhat Phat surpassed Huynh Nguyen Dang Khoa to cross the line first, winning the first stage of his career in this prestigious race.
Third place went to Nguyen Pham Quoc Khang (Pelio Kenda Dong Nai ), who successfully broke away from the group in the final kilometers.
Speaking after the race, Nguyen Nhat Phat said: "My goal is just to win at the sprint points, while the whole team will do their best to support Nicholas Kergozou to find victory on the occasion of his birthday.
However, when I saw the gap widening, I decided to compete with Dang Khoa for the stage victory. I am very happy to have won the stage for the first time at the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cycling Cup."
After 24 stages, Mikhail Fokin (Loc Troi Group) still retains the yellow jersey. Nicholas Kergozou (620 Vinh Long Agriculture) holds the green jersey for the King of Sprints. Meanwhile, Nguyen Hoang Sang (Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai) continues to hold the orange jersey for the best Vietnamese racer.
Tomorrow (April 30), stage 25 from Tay Ninh to Ho Chi Minh City (139km long) will conclude this year's emotional "Non song lien mot doi" journey.
