At the seminar "Commercializing 5G, applying it to smart industry" organized by the Vietnam IT Journalists Club on the morning of December 26, network operators shared a lot of important information about the speed of 5G commercialization in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Le Ba Tan, Head of Technical Department of Viettel Group, this network operator launched the 5G mobile network in October 2024.

We reached 3 million 5G subscribers after 2 weeks and now after 2 months, Viettel's 5G subscribers are 4 million. These 4 million subscribers correspond to 70% of 5G terminals in the coverage area of 6,500 5G BTS stations ,” Mr. Le Ba Tan shared.

After 2 months of deployment, on average each Viettel 5G subscriber consumed about 21GB of data per month, 1.7 times higher than when the service was first provided. The use of 5G services is expected to increase further in 2025.

The head of Viettel Group's technical department said that there are currently about 10 million Viettel subscribers nationwide with 5G terminals, out of a total of 66 million customers using the service. This also means that Viettel's 5G subscriber growth potential is about 6 million subscribers ready.

For corporate customers, Viettel prioritizes units that have a need to use 5G networks such as industrial parks, airports, ports...

Up to now, only a few businesses are using the 5G network. Viettel is currently working with about 100 businesses to test and provide digital solutions for businesses.

Viettel has also built two laboratories in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This is where 5G application developers can come to test their products, avoiding frequency interference or IoT protocol failure when applied in practice.

This space is created to help businesses have the right environment to develop 5G applications suitable for Vietnam.
