Van Nien Water Plant was built with a total cost of nearly 800 billion VND, providing clean water to more than 80% of people in Thua Thien
Hue province.

Van Nien Water Plant is located on an area of 13.5 hectares in Thuy Bieu Ward, Hue City, and was started 3 years ago, invested by Thua Thien Hue Water Supply and Drainage Company.
The project is divided into two phases. In phase one, the contractor will construct all items, ensuring a capacity of 60,000 m3 of water per day; phase two is expected to be completed by the end of this year, increasing the capacity to 120,000 m3 of water per day. The project includes a water pumping station, a sedimentation treatment area, a chemical house, a water tank, a sludge treatment area, and a transformer station.
Water from the Huong River will be pumped into the sand settling tank, led through the water collection compartment before being treated with chemicals. The water will then go through the receiving tank and be pumped by the level I pumping station to the treatment area via the DN1200 raw water pipe.
The entire plant has three water pumping stations. Source water from pumping station 1 is brought to the treatment area, passing through the DN1400 static mixer. Using a static mixer instead of a mixing tank with an agitator like traditional water treatment technology helps reduce construction volume, reduce investment costs for agitators, frequency converter control systems, the ability to react between coagulant chemicals and raw water, and the floc development process is still guaranteed. Treatment chemicals are added before the static mixing stage and are automatically controlled by the SCADA system.
Clean water tank system of Van Nien water plant. Filter washing water is collected in the tank and settled, then pumped back to the treatment area to ensure no impact on the environment. Settled sludge from the filter washing water recovery tank and the settling tank is fed into the centrifuge to be dried before being transported to the collection point.
The chemical plant is equipped with many modern facilities.
Clean water is closely monitored before being pumped and distributed to consumers. Water quality and the factory's treatment processes are continuously monitored 24/7 thanks to online measuring devices.
The control center will manage, operate and monitor water treatment plants, booster stations and water supply networks.
Van Nien is the largest water plant in Thua Thien Hue, helping to improve water flow in the northern and southern areas of Hue City, providing water for more than one million people.
The factory builds a solar power system and installs backup power turbines in case of power outages.
Van Nien Water Plant was built in 1909 under the French colonial period by French architect Bossard with a combination of East-West architecture. It was the first water plant built in Central Vietnam. The project was recognized as a provincial historical site in 2004.
After the new Van Nien water plant is put into operation, Thua Thien Hue Water Supply and Drainage Company will use the old headquarters as the first water industry museum in Vietnam.
The French water pump system is on display in the new factory grounds.
