( Quang Ngai Newspaper) - Nearly 2 years after the landslide incident that buried Ka Tinh 1 Hydropower Plant, the investor has now repaired many items and is expected to put the plant back into operation in November 2024.
Recently, at the landslide repair site of Ka Tinh 1 Hydropower Plant, Ka Tinh village, Tra Son commune (Tra Bong), workers have been working hard to complete the items. Director of Ka Tinh Hydropower Plant Dang Vu Thuyen said that the reconstruction of the factory frame has been completed. Repaired and newly purchased equipment for replacement has been and is being transported to the construction site.
The most important equipment, the generator, has been repaired and brought from Hanoi to the factory. The control cabinet system is expected to be transported to the site by the end of July 2024. Some auxiliary equipment connected to the generator, imported from Austria, has a long procedure and is expected to arrive at the factory on August 20. The company has also ordered Austrian experts to come to the factory to support equipment installation in September 2024.

| Ka Tinh 1 Hydropower Plant is located in a cluster of 2 hydropower plants built on the Ha Doi River, Tra Lam Commune (Tra Bong), with a total capacity of 12MW, invested by Tra Bong Hydropower Joint Stock Company, with a total capital of 437 billion VND. The plant started construction in 2018 and was completed and put into operation in 2020. On the night of October 10, 2022, a serious landslide occurred here, killing 1 worker and burying the entire Ka Tinh 1 Hydropower Plant in tens of thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil. |
“The process of installing the machine, checking technical parameters, and acceptance will last until early October 2024. It is expected that water will be stored and tested on October 15. The test operation period will be about 30 days. If everything goes well, by the end of November 2024, Ka Tinh 1 Hydropower Plant will officially resume operation after 2 years of inactivity,” said Mr. Dang Vu Thuyen. According to the representative of Tra Bong Hydropower Joint Stock Company - the investor of Ka Tinh 1 Hydropower Plant project, after the incident, the project was damaged up to 90%, fortunately the generator was only slightly damaged, repaired and reused. Therefore, the investment cost to fix the incident was reduced, about 50 billion VND.
According to Mr. Dang Vu Thuyen, the reason for the delay in fixing the problem and putting the Ka Tinh Hydropower Plant back into operation is, first, that the fixing process encountered many difficulties, especially in terms of finance. Second, it was necessary to excavate soil and rocks, remove equipment from the landslide, check and evaluate whether the equipment could be reused or not, and then choose equipment to replace the damaged equipment. Calculating safety solutions and controlling the reliability of the equipment also took a lot of time.
“The volume of landslide soil and rock that must be excavated and transported to another location is up to more than 40 thousand cubic meters. Currently, about 34 thousand cubic meters have been excavated, the remaining 6,000 cubic meters are still being worked on, expected to be completed by the end of July 2024. Only when the soil and rock are excavated can the barrier wall be built. In the coming days, the unit will urgently deploy the work, striving to complete and put the factory back into operation in November 2024,” said Mr. Dang Vu Thuyen.
