At 10:00 AM on July 14th, Chang Jung Lin (40 years old) played as usual and won 2-0 against Tommy (Indonesia) in the final round of 32. According to the schedule, in the next round Chang will face another Indonesian player, Yoni Rachmanto, at 4:00 PM.
However, organizing staff discovered that Chang Jung Lin had died at the hotel from a heart attack. The news of Chang Jung Lin's death was officially confirmed by the World Pool Association (WPA) at 9 PM on July 14th, shocking many people.
In its article commemorating Chang Jung Lin's passing, the WPA called him a "legend" and a hero of Taiwanese billiards. "We have lost a legend, but Chang Jung Lin's spirit and contributions will never be forgotten," the WPA affirmed.
Chang Jung Lin is one of the world's top billiards players. He once held the number one ranking in the WPA and won dozens of major and minor titles, including the 2012 World Eight-ball Championship.
