Hà Nội MớiHà Nội Mới16/08/2023

On August 16, in Dong Anh district, 80 delegates attended a media conference to equip knowledge and skills on preventing and combating gender-based violence organized by the Center for Social Work and the Hanoi Children's Support Fund.

According to Trinh Thi Phuong, Head of the Counseling and Support Department (Hanoi Social Work Center and Children's Protection Fund), in recent years, the reality has shown that the main victims of gender-based violence are children and women. In many cases, the victims suffered from violence leading to serious mental and physical injuries, even endangering their lives.

Therefore, through this program, the Organizing Committee hopes to provide knowledge and skills for people to recognize and respond well to gender-based violence.

At the program, lecturer Hoang Hanh Tam informed about alarming figures stated in the National Survey on Domestic Violence by the General Statistics Office, such as: 58% of women admitted to having experienced some form of violence in their lives; each year there are 1,000 cases of sexual abuse of girls; 87% of victims of domestic violence have not sought support from public services or competent people...

From the practice of consulting and assisting, expert Hoang Hanh Tam noted: There are deviant behaviors, which are essentially gender-based violence, but are easily overlooked, such as: Husbands being unreasonably jealous, beating children to hurt their wives, not allowing them to have contact with their children...

Notably, common behaviors and manifestations of gender-based violence include: not sharing household chores, not sharing in earning money, forcing to have a son; not using condoms at the request of a partner; controlling time; violating confidentiality and personal information...

When encountering an incident, the victim should share with someone they trust in the family, or seek help from the People's Committee, police, women's union, grassroots mediation team, Fatherland Front and associations, individuals such as village chiefs, hamlets...; or call the hotline number 0243.2233.111 of the Social Work Center and Hanoi Children's Protection Fund for timely advice and support.

Besides, to prevent it, it is necessary to study and improve knowledge about gender, gender-based violence, and understand relevant legal documents and regulations.
