Replicating the deer farming model in Cam Lac commune

On the morning of November 28, the Department of Science and Technology coordinated with the Ha Tinh Agricultural Extension Center to organize a workshop to summarize the project "Building a model of sika deer breeding in Cam Lac commune, Ha Tinh province".

Attending were leaders of the Department of Science and Technology of Ha Tinh , relevant sectors and localities.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Director of the Department of Science and Technology Le Thanh Dong affirmed: Science, technology and innovation are one of the important pillars in socio -economic development. Accordingly, the deployment and application of scientific and technical advances in production have contributed to helping farmers innovate production and business methods, promoting sustainable economic development.

The project “Building a model for raising spotted deer in Cam Lac commune, Ha Tinh province” has been implemented for the past 2 years and has brought about initial results. The deer herd grows and develops well, suitable to the local climate and soil.

The Director of the Department of Science and Technology requested the delegates participating in the workshop to actively discuss and share experiences in caring for and preventing diseases for deer herds, applying technology to production, gradually implementing traceability and finding stable markets. Local authorities need to accompany and support to continue to replicate the deer farming model, contributing to improving people's lives.

In 2024, the project "Building a model of sika deer breeding in Cam Lac commune, Ha Tinh province" was implemented in village 5, Cam Lac commune with 5 households participating and establishing a cooperative group for sika deer breeding. On an area of over 300m2 ^of barns, the cooperative group raised 35 sika deer, including 15 male sika deer and 20 female sika deer.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Ngoc - Director of Ha Tinh Agricultural Extension Center emphasized the project implementation process.

During the breeding process, the Department of Science and Technology and related sectors and units organized tours for households to learn from effective deer breeding models in the province; training on science and technology transfer, care processes, barn construction, disease prevention processes, product processing and consumption, intensive grass growing processes and animal feed processing... In particular, households were provided with reputable, quality breeding animals that met the breeding standards as prescribed.

Mr. Truong Xuan Ha - Head of the deer breeding group of Cam Lac commune shared the model implementation process.

Up to this point, the deer herd is healthy, growing well, and adapting to local environmental conditions. The male deer herd is growing well, 14/15 deer have had their antlers cut according to the correct procedure, the average antler weight is 0.7 - 0.9 kg/deer; the deer herd has produced 17 deer, and is being well cared for.

At the workshop, delegates discussed and shared experiences in deer care, disease prevention processes; orientations for replicating and developing the model in the coming time, towards building product brands.

The workshop aimed to evaluate the implementation of the project "Building a deer breeding model in Cam Lac commune, Ha Tinh province", the initial effectiveness of the project and the prospect of replicating the model in neighboring communes.

From there, communes research and issue stimulus and support policy mechanisms to encourage people to replicate the model to maximize the potential of local advantages and promote sustainable rural economic development.
