Regarding weather patterns in June 2023, on June 1, Deputy Head of Climate Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Nguyen Duc Hoa said that storms and tropical depressions are likely to operate in the East Sea and affect the Northern and North Central regions.
Referring to the temperature and rainfall trends in June, Deputy Head of Department Nguyen Duc Hoa said that the average monthly temperature in regions across the country was generally 0.5-1 degrees Celsius higher, and in some places higher than the average of many years in the same period.
The Northern region experienced heat waves in the first days of the month, after which the heat wave intensity temporarily decreased. From mid-June, temperatures tended to be 0.5-1 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years, and the heat wave increased again.
The Northern and Central regions are likely to experience many hot days, with the number of hot days being higher than the average of many years.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa noted that due to the impact of the heat wave concentrated in the North and Central regions, people need to be on guard against the risk of fire and explosion in residential and production areas due to the high demand for electricity and the high risk of forest fires.
In June 2023, rainfall in the Northern, North and Central Central regions was generally 10-20% lower than the average of many years. The South Central region was approximately at the average of many years. The Central Highlands and the South were generally 5-20% higher than the average of many years in the same period.
In addition, the Central Highlands and the South have many days of showers and thunderstorms; in the North and North Central regions, rain tends to concentrate in the middle and end of the month, however, the total monthly rainfall still tends to be lower than the average of many years.
“Dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail continue to occur nationwide, which can greatly affect production and people’s livelihoods. These phenomena are more concentrated in the North, North Central, Central Highlands, and South regions,” Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa emphasized.
Faced with the above weather conditions, hydrometeorological experts recommend that the government and relevant agencies need to promptly provide disaster forecast information to the people, direct disaster prevention and control work in various forms; mobilize, propagate and implement an absolute ban on people's activities in areas at high risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and hail.
People need to strictly follow the local government's instructions on disaster response and prevention; regularly update the latest hydrometeorological forecast information on the official mass media of the Central and local governments to proactively respond./.
