Major Cao Dinh Xuan, Political Commissar of Hien Kiet Border Guard Station, said: Standing in the difficult border commune of Quan Hoa district, the unit has assigned 16 officers and units to take charge of and help 73 households in the border area. The units assigned to take charge of the households have guided and helped the families apply scientific and technical advances in cultivation and animal husbandry to increase productivity and improve economic life; coordinated with all levels and sectors to actively support and accompany the locality in social security activities, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, contributing to taking care of people's lives. In the past time, the units have directly participated in helping households with 300 working days; called on organizations and individuals to support households with 40 million VND. Along with that, the units mobilized and called on organizations and individuals to support 15 million VND to support the work of promoting learning and talent, giving books and school supplies to children in the families in charge, worth over 15 million VND.
Lieutenant Colonel Thinh Van Kien, Head of the Provincial Border Guard Mass Mobilization Committee, said: Thanh Hoa has 213.6km of border with Hua Phan province (Laos), with 16 communes, 153 hamlets and villages in 5 districts: Muong Lat, Quan Hoa, Quan Son, Lang Chanh and Thuong Xuan. People living in this area are mainly ethnic minorities, their lives still face many difficulties, and their understanding of the law is limited. After more than 5 years of implementing Directive No. 681 of the Border Guard Party Committee on assigning units to be in charge of households in border areas, the Provincial Border Guard has assigned 531 units to be in charge of 2,501 households in border areas. As soon as they were assigned the task, the border guards coordinated with local authorities to propagate and guide people to develop production, build and replicate new production models that bring economic efficiency, creating sustainable livelihoods for people. Many models have been and are being promoted effectively such as Tam Chung, Pu Nhi, Trung Ly border posts have coordinated with Phuc Thinh Agricultural - Forestry Products and Agricultural Materials Processing Joint Stock Company to deploy the model of planting "High-yield cassava" in Muong Lat district; expanding models of raising goats, wild boars, and breeding cows in Quang Chieu; planting high-yield hybrid corn in Bat Mot; planting hawthorn trees and clean vegetables in Pu Nhi... In addition, the border posts also organized guidance on livelihood models, farming techniques, and raising livestock and poultry with an amount of over 4.2 billion VND and more than 2,654 officers and soldiers participating in supporting the people.
Border guards assigned to take charge of households have promoted their roles and responsibilities well, providing appropriate solutions to help families in border areas develop their economies, contributing with local Party committees and authorities to build a solid all-people border defense posture at the border.
