Attending and directing the Conference were Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, Member of the Steering Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Congress; representatives of District 7 leaders and 73 ethnic minority delegates (official) in the area.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Mr. Chau Xuan Dai Thang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of District 7 (HCMC) said that in recent times, ethnic minorities in the district have always united and joined hands to build the locality to develop more and more and build an increasingly strong national solidarity bloc.
Notably, many priority policies on education, economy and sustainable poverty reduction for ethnic minorities have been implemented, creating high trust and consensus among ethnic minorities in the Party and local authorities.
According to the Conference's political report, District 7 is one of the five new districts established in 1997 in Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, the district has 104,030 households, with nearly 352,000 people, with many ethnic groups.
In the ethnic structure, Kinh people account for 98.78% of the district's population; followed by the Chinese (3,019 people, accounting for 0.85%); and the Cham (204 people). The district is also home to other ethnic minorities, such as: Tay, Nung, Muong, Khmer, Ede, Thai, Co Ho, San Diu, Dao, Gia Rai, Ba Na, Hre, Cho Ro, Tho, etc.
To promote the great solidarity of ethnic groups in the area, Mr. Ho Van Don, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of District 7, said: Currently, the majority of ethnic minority households in the area are manual laborers and small traders. Many ethnic minority families still maintain traditional cultural features in their families. Notably, the ethnic groups in the area all live together in solidarity and harmony, have relatively stable family economies, and comply well with the Party's policies and the State's laws.
Recently, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of District 7 has done a good job of supervising the implementation of ethnic policies on the implementation of the "Ethnic Work Strategy for the period 2021-2030".
Thanks to monitoring and timely grasping of the situation and results of implementing ethnic policies (caring for poor and near-poor households who are ethnic minorities, policies for prestigious people, building core members among ethnic minorities, etc.), the leaders of District 7 have promoted the achieved results, promptly detected and overcome shortcomings in implementing ethnic policies in the area.
According to the Congress program, in addition to summarizing ethnic work, results of ethnic policy implementation in the 2019-2024 period and directions and tasks for the 2024-2029 period, the Conference also selected delegates to attend the Ho Chi Minh City Ethnic Minority Congress and commended individuals and collectives with outstanding achievements in ethnic work and ethnic policies in the area.
