On the 'online market', offerings for the Full Moon Festival of January are advertised densely with prices starting from only 800 thousand VND/tray.

The 15th day of the first lunar month (also known as Tet Thuong Nguyen) is an important holiday for Vietnamese people to show their respect to their ancestors and gods, and to pray for peace and good things for themselves and their families. On this day, many families often prepare offerings, fruits, votive paper, and food trays to present to their ancestors and gods.

In recent years, instead of going to the market to buy food to cook for the Full Moon Festival in January as usual, many families have switched to ordering food on the "online market" (buying and selling online) to worship their ancestors and gods. Due to that need, more and more establishments cooking food and selling on platforms such as Facebook and Zalo have appeared.

Ms. Tran Dieu Thao, owner of a shop specializing in cooking offerings in Ha Dong ( Hanoi city) said that compared to previous years, this year the number of customers ordering offerings for the Full Moon Festival in January is much higher, many customers placed orders very early.

"In recent years, especially this year, the number of customers ordering offerings for the Full Moon Festival in January has increased significantly. On this occasion, my family had to hire 3 more employees to prepare offerings in time to serve customers who had pre-ordered. Normally, my family will collect orders from the 10th day of the lunar calendar to facilitate the calculation and purchase of ingredients," said Ms. Thao.

According to Ms. Thao, a typical offering tray for the Full Moon Festival in January will include main dishes such as boiled chicken, fried spring rolls, steamed shrimp, fried pork, mushroom soup, fruit salad, five-color sticky rice, etc. If customers make their own menu, the store will make it according to the customer's request and calculate the cost based on the number of dishes the customer wants on the offering tray.

As someone who has spent many years ordering offerings online for the Full Moon Festival of January, Ms. Dinh Thu Huong (Tay Mo ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi city) said that the advantage of the online offering service is that it is convenient, complete, and suitable for busy families or women who are not yet proficient in making offerings.

“My family in particular and many young families today do not have time to prepare a thoughtful offering, so they choose to order offerings online, which are both complete and convenient. In addition, the prices of the offerings are not too high. A basic offering costs only about 800,000 VND, but if you want many dishes or expensive dishes, the price can be up to 2 million VND per tray,” said Ms. Dinh Thu Huong.
