Gia Lai promotes prevention: More than 11.6 million doses of vaccine to protect livestock herds
Gia Lai province is actively implementing comprehensive measures to control and prevent epidemics in livestock and poultry, thereby protecting the safety of livestock production and food supply, according to information from Gia Lai Newspaper.
Since the beginning of the year, the vaccination work has been carried out synchronously by the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine throughout the area. According to Mr. Huynh Ngoc Diep, Head of the Department, the total number of vaccines injected is up to more than 11.6 million doses.
The campaign covers essential vaccines such as avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, bovine septicemia, and classical swine fever. It is noteworthy that more than 2.6 million doses of this total are supported by central and local budgets, creating favorable conditions for livestock farming households.
Proactive vaccination is considered a fundamental and sustainable solution to minimize the risk of dangerous epidemics, especially in the context of changing seasons and humid climate. Professional agencies also strongly recommend full vaccination and compliance with the correct procedures to ensure safety for both livestock and the community.
African swine fever (ASF) prevention and control has received special attention after the disease broke out again. Since the end of June, ASF has been recorded in 59 households in 44 villages in 24 communes and wards.
In total, 1,251 sick pigs had to be destroyed, with a destroyed weight of 73,947 kg.
Currently, the outbreak management work is being seriously implemented by localities, strictly following professional guidelines, including zoning, disinfection, and monitoring. All outbreaks are reported and promptly updated to the National Animal Disease Management System (VAHIS).
Up to now, the whole province has only 2/24 communes and wards, Phu My and An Nhon Nam, that have not passed 21 days since the last case was destroyed, according to regulations on the time to declare the end of the epidemic.
Gia Lai Province's Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine pledged to continue closely monitoring disease developments and urge localities to strengthen disinfection.
The main objective is to guide farmers to apply biosecurity measures and complete full vaccination to completely control African swine fever. These efforts are aimed at ensuring disease safety, maintaining production stability and food supply in the provincial market.
