April is like a promise to return to the Memorial of the heroic martyrs at Cau Nhe. That is where 55 years ago, the US imperialists crazily dropped bombs and bullets in an attempt to cut off the marching route and the vehicles supplying food and provisions to the southern battlefield. In the midst of the war, 53 officers and soldiers of Battalion 351, Regiment 5 Yen Tu, Hai Phong were forever left behind when marching through Provincial Road 12 (Khanh Vinh Yen Commune, Can Loc District today).

The shrine honoring the heroic martyrs who died at Cau Nhe has been restored and embellished.

To commemorate them, in 2005, a stele house - shrine to record the names of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed at Cau Nhe was built and the memorial site was ranked as a provincial historical and cultural relic in 2014.

In 2022, Giang Nam Petroleum Company Limited provided 5.2 billion VND to upgrade the Memorial Site for fallen heroes at Cau Nhe. This meaningful work meets the expectations of the people of Ha Tinh and Hai Phong, demonstrating the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking", showing gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Ngoc - General Director of Giang Nam Petroleum Company Limited shared: “The project is a tribute to the officers and soldiers who sacrificed for the Fatherland, a testament to the close bond between the Party Committee, government, and enterprises of Hai Phong City and Ha Tinh. We hope that with this investment, the red address of Cau Nhe will receive more and more attention from the younger generations. Thereby, educating them about patriotism and civic responsibility towards the Fatherland”.

During these historic days, many people came to visit and offer incense to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives at Cau Nhe.

Nearly 10 km southwest of Nhe Bridge is the shrine to 23 Youth Volunteers martyrs in Phu Loc commune, located at Con Cong hill (Tra Son village). The shrine was built in 2010 to commemorate 23 officers and soldiers of Youth Volunteers Company 555 - Youth Volunteers Group 55-P18 who died while on duty to ensure traffic on November 13, 1972.

More than 50 years have passed, and that heroic story has become sediment in the source of the homeland's mountains and rivers, in the memories of comrades and loved ones. And today, the pain in people's hearts has also eased when witnessing the place where the fallen heroes are regularly cared for, built, and upgraded to be more spacious with the attention and investment of units, organizations, and individuals. In particular, at the end of 2024, the temple was started to be renovated with a budget of 2.8 billion VND from the connection and support call of Hai Phong City Youth Union. The project has met the expectations of countless comrades, relatives of martyrs and people living on this land.

The shrine of 23 Youth Volunteers in Phu Loc commune is always a destination for the young generation.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Vy - Chairman of Phu Loc Commune People's Committee shared: "Recently, the locality has advised the district to invest more than 1 billion VND to build a road to the temple area with a length of about 330m and a width of 5m. The project will start as soon as the restoration and embellishment of the temple is completed. We are also mobilizing people to donate land and expand the back of the temple area to realize the idea of gathering the graves of the fallen Youth Volunteers for burial here. The commune has also established a management board and maintained the activities of offering incense and offerings to martyrs on every holiday and Tet, and at the same time assigned the Veterans Association and the local Youth Union to coordinate with the Youth Volunteers to find the photos and relics of the fallen Youth Volunteers on this land to build a traditional house, contributing to educating patriotism for the younger generation".

In the flow of gratitude during the historic April days, the staff of Ke Go Nature Reserve Management Board is also quietly sending their memories to the officers, soldiers and youth volunteers who sacrificed their lives in the Ke Go lake area through practical actions.

The martyrs' temple at Ke Go Lake was built with a total cost of more than 10 billion VND from socialized sources.

More than 50 years ago, the plan to build Route 21, 22 and Libi field airport in the area of Ke Go Lake today was carried out, creating a new traffic artery to support the Southern battlefield. These projects marked the feats and silent sacrifices of officers and soldiers, Youth Volunteer Force and local people. At Libi airport, fierce raids by the US Air Force took place, many officers and soldiers were left in Ke Go Lake.

Since 1998, the government and people of Ha Tinh have exhumed hundreds of graves scattered in the deep forest, at the bottom of the lake, and gathered them at the Martyrs Cemetery of Cam Xuyen district, but most of them have not been identified. Together with the government and people, in recent times, the Management Board of Ke Go Nature Reserve has also searched, connected, and met with many witnesses to temporarily obtain a list of 28 Youth Volunteers and 32 officers and soldiers who died at the Libi field airport. The idea of building a temple to commemorate and pay tribute to those who have fallen is still lingering in the minds of the people and staff working at Ke Go Nature Reserve.

Mr. Nguyen Phi Cong - Deputy Director of Ke Go Nature Reserve Management Board shared: “In response to the expectations of many people, the construction of the Temple of Heroes and Martyrs in Ke Go Lake began in July 2022. With a total cost of more than 10 billion VND from the joint efforts of organizations, individuals, and businesses, the project has been invested in and divided into 2 phases, including construction items and items inside the temple. To date, phase 2 has been completed. Those who fell on this land have a place to burn incense, the land full of bomb craters in the past has become a red address for traditional education for today's and future generations".

From that source of gratitude, on the resilient land of Ha Tinh, many temples, memorials, and war relics have been built. Together with organizations, individuals, Party committees, and authorities in the flow of gratitude, voluntary environmental sanitation activities, landscape restoration of martyrs' memorials, and historical relics by students are also being carried out regularly. Every action, every deed, every flower, every candle, every stick of incense... is the deep gratitude of today's generation sent to the heroes and martyrs who fell for the independence and freedom of the nation.
