Ankle sprains are often overlooked - Photo: CTA
Doctor Vo Chau Duyen, head of the trauma and orthopedics department at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital (HCMC) - shared that trauma cases have much greater potential risks than many people think.
1. Ankle Sprain
Often occurs when the foot is suddenly rotated, damaging the ligaments around the ankle.
If not treated properly, it can lead to loose joints, easy recurrence and early osteoarthritis.
2. Shin pain
Pain along the shin bone, common in runners or athletes just starting out. Continuing to exercise without rest can lead to a fracture.
3. Elbow tendinitis (tennis elbow)
Pain on the outside of the elbow is caused by overuse of the forearm muscles. This is an extremely common injury in racquet sports .
This syndrome usually occurs quietly in the first 2 years, causing players to be subjective. However, if not properly rested and treated, it can lead to chronic inflammation and, more seriously, loss of hand mobility.
4. Anterior cruciate ligament injury
Occurs when there is a sudden change in direction or a quick stop, commonly seen in football and basketball.
If not treated properly, it can lead to knee instability and increased risk of osteoarthritis.
5. Meniscus tear
Description: Often occurs when the knee is suddenly rotated, causing damage to the meniscus in the knee joint.
Risk: If left untreated can lead to chronic pain and joint degeneration.
6. Minor head injury
Head injuries often occur in high-impact sports such as martial arts and football. Sometimes it can be just a swing of the arm, or the ball hitting the head multiple times.
Although often overlooked, if not properly evaluated and treated, they can lead to serious nerve damage.
Preventive recommendations
Don't ignore mild pain: Any pain that persists or recurs should be evaluated by a medical professional.
Perform proper warm-up and stretching: This helps keep muscles flexible and reduces the risk of injury.
Use correct technique and appropriate equipment: Make sure you are using correct technique and appropriate sports equipment to reduce the risk of injury.
Strengthen your muscles and get enough rest: Work out to strengthen your muscles and make sure your body has time to recover between workouts.
