The alluvial roads of the island

Ong Ho Islet (My Hoa Hung Commune) is like a peaceful emerald in the middle of the Hau River. The alluvial roads are shaded by shady trees, and all year round, people live in harmony with the pure breath of nature.

Cool village road

After crossing the Tra On ferry to Ong Ho islet, we followed the asphalt road, then stopped by the market early in the morning to feel the peace here. In the morning, people from the garden carry baskets to the market to shop and ask each other about business on the islet. Next to Tra Mon market are bustling rice, porridge, and beverage shops serving the people. Although the people's lives cannot keep up with those of the city, they are very optimistic and have few worries. A slow lifestyle and friendly neighbors seem to happen every day on this beloved land.

Stopping by a cafe, we leisurely had breakfast and quenched our thirst at Tra Mon market. When the owner announced the total cost of 27,000 VND for a bowl of fragrant porridge and a cup of strong milk coffee, I was surprised because the prices here were affordable. Leaving the bustling Tra Mon market, we entered the quiet space of winding roads and canals. The wooden stilt houses, which looked very simple of the people, had a unique feature of the remaining river region of the West in this island. The rural road, although not large, was located next to a canal, and the trees were planted by the people on both sides of the road, making it cool. Under the canal, the high and low water slowly flowed in and out, carrying alluvial particles to enrich the fields all year round. Occasionally, we also saw people crowding around a wooden bridge under the canal to bathe and wash clothes. The simple daily life of the people of the island has been preserved intact until now.

My Hoa Hung land is formed by Ong Ho islet and Pho Ba islet, located in the middle of Hau river, alluvial deposits, green trees and fruits. The people here are kind and enthusiastic. I met Mr. Tran Van Hieu (73 years old) sitting by the communal house waiting for his relatives to come back from the market. Mr. Hieu's eyes lit up with pride when talking about his hometown. He said that the climate of this island is always cool all year round. "My house is near Hau river, the wind blows very cool. In this island, there is no need to use air conditioning. Thanks to breathing the fresh air, we are very healthy" - Mr. Hieu said.

For a long time, the people of this island have lived in harmony, solidarity, and close-knit neighborhood relationships to support each other to overcome difficulties and challenges. Life is slow, no one competes with anyone, so security and order are maintained. Mr. Hieu said that for a long time, no one has complained about lost vehicles or petty thefts. This island lies in the middle of the Hau River, if thieves dare to come here, they will not be able to escape. To prove his words, Mr. Hieu recalled that quite a while ago, there was a thief who stole a motorbike from a local. The people united to catch the thief. "When they discovered the thief, the people just called the ferry to stop, then chased and caught him. Therefore, when it comes to this island, thieves do not dare to come here to operate" - Mr. Hieu laughed.

Running straight to the top of the island, we met the people here who have a very simple life. They said that at the top of the island, people mainly live by fishing and casting nets on the river. In this land, people do not fear a lack of fish. Early in the morning, rowing a boat to the river to cast nets, in a few hours they can harvest all kinds of fish. The source of fish caught is all kinds, such as: silver carp, red snapper, snakehead fish, toad fish... After that, they bring it to the market to sell to small traders, the rest is saved to process for daily meals. Meeting Mrs. Suong sitting in her house, she said loudly that up to now, the people in this island hamlet have specialized in fishing. Thanks to the natural source of fish and shrimp, everyone has an income to support their families.

The stilt houses at the head of the islet are located near the riverbank, with trees around providing shade. The wind from all directions blows rustling into the houses. They said that during the flood season, the water here is as deep as the front yard. When the flood recedes, the north wind blows strongly, and every house has freezing hands and feet. Standing by the Hau River looking at the fish rafts, the people are hiring people to put up sturdy anchors. When asked, we learned that they are fixing their fish rafts because they are afraid that the strong northeast wind will cause damage and loss of fish resources...

During a stroll around Ong Ho Islet, we felt the peaceful life of the local people. Ong Ho Islet is a potential eco -tourism destination, if well exploited, it will attract many tourists to experience.

My Hoa Hung commune has a total natural area of about 2,100 hectares, of which the rice cultivation area is about 1,000 hectares, and other crops and plants are more than 548 hectares. The economy here mainly relies on agriculture, aquaculture and traditional handicrafts.
