The above products have contributed to maintaining the traditional wine-making profession, while creating safe products that are suitable for the Vietnamese drinking culture. Their startup stories are like bright colors in the process of renewing the homeland and country.
Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh - Director of Ba Den Farm Company Limited introduces Bo Chinh ginseng wine to diners.
A woman passionate about Bo Chinh ginseng
Bo Chinh ginseng wine is a typical business product of Ba Den Farm Company Limited (Tan Binh Commune, Tay Ninh City). This is a product that the company has painstakingly researched and developed over many years. Up to now, Bo Chinh ginseng wine products are sold and distributed widely in the market inside and outside the province, becoming a famous wine of Tay Ninh province, able to compete with famous domestic wine brands.
The story of making Bo Chinh ginseng wine is associated with the constant efforts of Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh - Director of Ba Den Farm Company Limited as well as the determination and companionship of the company's leadership and staff.
Talking about the journey of bringing Bo Chinh ginseng to grow in Tay Ninh, Ms. Hanh's eyes could not help but be proud. She said that in 2013, through a friend doing a scientific research project on Bo Chinh ginseng, she felt interested and began to learn more about this type of ginseng. She and her friends bought seedlings to try growing in Duong Minh Chau district.
Initially, due to lack of understanding of the growth characteristics of the tree, the experimental plantings failed many times. Undaunted, she and her technical team carefully and meticulously recorded the characteristics of the tree through failures and found solutions.
Finally, her group of friends found a way to grow this ginseng on the sunny and windy land of Tay Ninh, producing quality Bo Chinh ginseng with high Saponin content and verified by the Vietnam Institute of Medicinal Materials.
Ms. Hanh said that to produce clean ginseng, the process of planting and caring for the plants is done naturally, without using fertilizers or pesticides. Therefore, the medicinal properties of ginseng are very high and guaranteed to be safe and completely natural.
After 2 years of research and study on planting methods, in 2015, Ba Den Farm Company decided to cooperate with farmers to bring the Bo Chinh ginseng planting model to other places in the province. Up to now, the company has cooperated with farmers to plant in 5 districts and towns in the province including Cha La commune (Duong Minh Chau district), Thanh Duc commune (Go Dau district), Chau Thanh town (Chau Thanh district), Ward 1 (Tay Ninh city), Mo Cong commune (Tan Bien district).
With a high ginseng yield, Ms. Hanh and her company team began to solve the problem of researching health care products that bring benefits to consumers from ginseng, including Bo Chinh ginseng wine.
Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh - Director of Ba Den Farm Company Limited checks the quality of Bo Chinh ginseng wine
Surprisingly, the ginseng wine that Mrs. Hanh soaked received many compliments from relatives and friends that the wine was delicious, easy to drink, especially when waking up the next morning, her body felt very healthy and refreshed. Realizing the benefits of ginseng wine, she came up with the idea of making wine from the ginseng roots she grew.
“Nowadays, the use of alcohol with high Methanol concentration is harmful to the health of consumers. Therefore, I decided to research and invest in a modern wine making line, detoxify and combine with Bo Chinh ginseng to produce a line of wine that is good for consumers' health” - Ms. Hanh expressed.
Thinking is doing, she and the company's technical team started building the factory, finding clean materials to produce rice wine, selecting quality Bo Chinh ginseng roots to soak in wine. With the desire to make a safe and healthy wine for consumers, Ba Den Farm Company always sets the "clean" criteria in production and processing, especially paying attention to the selection of input materials, from sticky rice, water sources to wine soaking utensils.
Ms. Hanh said that the company invested in the production line for the ginseng-infused sticky rice wine. The wine is brewed with mineral water from Ba Den Mountain and yeast imported from Japan. To have delicious wine, Ms. Hanh invested in a wine processing system using “electromagnetic field” technology that can produce wines aged for many years in just a few hours. This is a solution that completely replaces the traditional method of burying wine in the ground while still producing high-quality wine as if it had been stored for many years.
The staff of Ba Den Farm Company Limited regularly checks the quality of the wine at the winery.
“The removal of some toxins in alcohol combined with ingredients from Bo Chinh ginseng, Indian ginseng, Ngoc Linh vine ginseng (Dang Sam) has many vitamin compounds, amino acids... many nutrients that are good for the body. Through a survey of users, Bo Chinh ginseng wine products are commented to not cause headaches, thirst or symptoms caused by the harmful effects of alcohol and beer. We are very happy to produce such a safe and healthy wine product” - Ms. Hanh said.
Bo Chinh ginseng wine is brewed entirely with Bo Chinh ginseng roots.
A quality product always quickly gains a place in the hearts of consumers. Bo Chinh ginseng wine has created a buzz inside and outside the province. The sweet, passionate taste of the wine, with the characteristic aroma of Bo Chinh ginseng with a safe Methanol concentration of 26 - 30 degrees are the criteria that help Bo Chinh ginseng wine meet food safety quality standards, becoming a typical rural industrial product in 2021 and one of the 4 products that meet the provincial 4-star OCOP standard of the company.
Currently, Bo Chinh ginseng wine is available in many markets, trusted and chosen by many restaurants and eateries in and outside the province to serve customers. The company has opened distributors in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Thuan, Lam Dong, Dak Lak...
The guy who keeps the fire of wine making alive
As an Electrical - Electronic engineer, graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and worked for 5 years at Tay Ninh Electricity Company, but with the determination to keep the family's traditional wine making profession alive, Mr. Nguyen Huu Y left his stable job, researched and started his own wine production and business - a completely different profession from the one he used to do.
Changing careers is not only a challenge but also the responsibility of a child or grandchild to preserve the family's traditional profession. Mr. Y said that his family has been making traditional wine for more than 50 years, passed down from his great-grandfather to his generation, which is 4 generations. Seeing his parents struggling to maintain the profession, with an unstable income, he had the idea of upgrading his family's traditional wine products into quality commercial industrial products with modern production processes.
Mr. Huu Y was honored to receive the 2023 Outstanding Young Entrepreneur Award from the Central Youth Union.
The journey from the idea to the successful implementation of his startup plan was full of hardships and difficulties. But for him, there is no more practical experience than experiencing it yourself and learning from it. In 2018, he decided to quit his job, borrow 150 million VND from the bank and relatives to start a business. He used 120 million VND to buy a wine making machine and automate the production line for filling and packaging, the remaining money he invested in renting a factory and product testing costs.
With the traditional wine-making techniques available from his family and knowledge about wine, he started experimenting with wine making with the goal of producing a wine that eliminates toxic substances, creating a product that both retains the characteristic flavor of traditional wine and is safe for consumers' health.
After the process of making the finished wine, he always brought the wine to the Food Testing Center to check the alcohol concentration, looking for solutions to remove toxic substances in the wine. After many experiments, many failures, he came up with a new wine making method that helps to eliminate the maximum amount of toxins such as Methanol and Aldehyde (two substances that cause alcohol poisoning if they exceed the allowable threshold).
This is the method of fermenting wine longer than usual to allow harmful substances to evaporate and applying multi-layer distillation technology to distill wine to help eliminate maximum levels of toxins without affecting the original delicious flavor of the wine.
Mr. Huu Y and the products he researched and developed.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Y said that in order to preserve the “soul” of Vietnamese rice wine, he tries to maintain the traditional wine-making techniques to produce a unique wine flavor. To differentiate his wine products, he applies the standardization rules for the output quality of the product by strictly controlling the selection of input materials, yeast types, and water sources. Temperature and humidity during the rice fermentation process are always monitored and adjusted accordingly.
After 1 year of research and testing, Mr. Y has successfully created a traditional rice wine product that meets the prescribed chemical standards. He confidently brought the product to market, but the journey to gain recognition and trust from consumers for local wine products without a brand was very difficult.
In the early days of the company's establishment, he worked very hard to produce wine and also worked as a salesman, delivery man, and image promoter. Gradually, Huu Y wine was praised by many customers after trying it. Since then, Huu Y wine products have been trusted by many customers and widely used in goods distribution markets, restaurants, grocery stores, supermarkets, etc.
Mr. Huu Y checks the wine barrels.
Currently, the company has about 10 products circulating on the market, of which 4 products meet OCOP standards, including products such as: rice wine, sticky rice wine, banana wine, Do 19 wine, charcoal sticky rice wine...
After 4 years of hard work and effort, Mr. Huu Y has also built more than 2,000 retail outlets in the province and more than 200 agents nationwide. In 2022, Huu Y is honored to be a partner supplying raw wine to Vietnam Livestock Industry Corporation (Vissan) to produce sausages, a strategic partner supplying wine to the Cambodian market with Tu Son - An Giang supermarket.
In July 2023, Mr. Nguyen Huu Y was honored by the Central Youth Union as one of 81 outstanding young entrepreneurs nationwide in 2023. He shared that this is the motivation for him to continue to maintain his current values. In addition to receiving many awards and certificates, his greatest achievement is the recognition and trust from customers.
