In the new era, sustainable journalism development strategy is built on three pillars: Content, business and technology.

That is the common view of many leaders of press and media agencies and experts at the Workshop "Welcoming the future of journalism: Building a sustainable model" held on June 4 in Hanoi .

In his opening speech, Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association , Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper emphasized the role of innovation and application of technology in the development of modern journalism.

He hopes the workshop will contribute to promoting press agencies to shape sustainable operating models, improve content quality and effectively adapt to the digital media environment.

The workshop is an opportunity for industry speakers to share practical experiences, successful innovation models, as well as tools and trends to support sustainable journalism development. Contributing to promoting a systematic and flexible transformation strategy for the Vietnamese journalism and media industry as well as effectively exploiting existing potentials.

According to Ms. Le Mai Anh, Southeast Asia Regional Director, Global PR Hub (a business providing and consulting on communication solutions), up to 42% of global journalists consider changing users' information consumption behavior to be the biggest challenge in 2024, while 58% are concerned that AI will affect content quality and trust in journalism.

Not out of the trend, Vietnam is considered a potential market thanks to the rapid development of digital platforms, while also facing pressure from users to change, competition from technology platforms and increasing demands for content quality.

Sharing his experience at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Van Ba, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnamnet Newspaper, stated that the press development model needs to revolve around three main pillars: Content, business and technology. This is not only an ideal, but also a vital foundation.

He believes that modern journalism is not just about reporting news, but also needs to provide values such as authentic information, independent perspectives, and personalized content experiences. At the same time, proactively building revenue through in-depth content and organizing events also plays an important role. Technology is seen as a strategic lever, supporting optimal operations, personalizing content, and applying AI throughout the entire publishing chain.

“Vietnamnet has built a journalism-technology model with a strong technology team, managing the entire editing-publishing-measurement cycle; integrating AI in many operations such as content censorship, topic suggestions, SEO optimization, analysis, and content personalization,” said journalist Nguyen Ba.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Ngo Viet Anh, Director of the Center for Media Development, Nhan Dan Newspaper, said that data and technology are becoming new "creative materials", not only helping to optimize operational processes but also contributing to building press products with depth and value.

Sharing about the digital transformation process in the newsroom, with advanced technology applications such as AI, AR/VR and new content platforms in the form of interactive Q&A, Mr. Ngo Viet Anh said that digital transformation of journalism is to put technology at the center of the development strategy, using technology to create attractive content and conquer new groups of readers, distribute content more effectively and generate larger revenue.
