(CLO) US President Donald Trump's refusal to accept an important request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy led to an angry meeting between them that was broadcast live at the White House.
The world watched in amazement as Mr Trump and Vice President JD Vance reprimanded President Zelenskyy on Friday in front of reporters, with cameras rolling.
Fox News, citing sources close to Mr. Zelenskyy, said that anger had flared even before the event began. The Ukrainian president appeared to have gotten the Trump administration to agree to a mineral deal in exchange for security, but it did not include any guarantees to protect Ukraine from another Russian attack.

Mr Zelenskyy had repeatedly warned before his trip to Washington that Kiev needed these security guarantees to reach a mineral deal, but he angered Trump and Vance by rejecting the deal, according to the source.
Then, just minutes into the meeting, a heated argument broke out between the two heads of state, leaving behind-the-scenes officials scrambling to figure out why things had broken down so quickly.
“We cannot just sign an agreement without any significant guarantees,” a Ukrainian defense adviser told Fox News.
Mr Zelenskyy's refusal to sign the deal appears to have contributed to the anger of Mr Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
"What kind of diplomacy are you talking about? What do you mean?" Mr Zelenskyy asked at the White House after the US president said he would negotiate with both Russia and Ukraine. Mr Vance interjected, saying: "I think it's disrespectful for you to come to the Oval Office and try to litigate this issue in front of the American media."
Mr Zelenskyy has repeatedly pointed out that Ukraine is fighting on the front lines to protect the security of the West and Europe. "You have a beautiful ocean and you don't feel it now, but you will feel it in the future," he argued.
"Don't tell us how we're going to feel," Mr. Trump said angrily. "We're trying to solve a problem. Don't tell us how we're going to feel."
