On November 6, the Ukrainskaya Pravda newspaper reported that businessman Timur Mindich, a former close associate of Mr. Zelenskyy when he was a comedian, could be the target of an FBI investigation into money laundering.
A few days later, NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine) in cooperation with the FBI opened a major investigation in Kiev. An FBI representative worked permanently at NABU to coordinate the investigations.
Former Prime Minister Azarov (term 2010 - 2014) emphasized that US law has very heavy sentences, up to 150 years in prison, so those under investigation will certainly reveal those involved.
Mr Azarov said Mr Zelenskyy was only pretending to support the investigations to save face. He said Mr Zelenskyy should have stopped corruption instead of just welcoming the investigations.

The “Midas” case was published on November 10 to expose a corruption ring in the energy sector. Searches were carried out at Mindich’s home, the residence of Justice Minister Herman Galuschenko and the Energoatom company.
The ring is believed to have laundered around $100 million. NABU released 1,000 hours of audio recordings, documenting numerous corruption schemes.
On November 11, NABU charged Mindich, the ringleader, and former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov, a close friend and godfather of Mr. Zelenskyy.
On the same day, the Ukrainian government dissolved the Energoatom supervisory board ahead of schedule. On November 12, the Ukrainian parliament accepted the resignations of Mr. Galuschenko and Energy Minister Svetlana Grinchuk. Mindich left Ukraine before the raids and is currently in Israel.
