Linking arms of Vietnamese and Cambodian students

On November 15, the Vietnam - Cambodia Student Exchange Program 2025 took place in Hung Yen with the theme "Connecting Today - Sustainable Tomorrow". The program was organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association in coordination with the People's Committee of Hung Yen province and Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Attending the program were Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the National Assembly, President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association; Ms. Chea Kimtha, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam; Mr. Pham Quang Ngoc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Yen province; relatives of martyrs, wounded soldiers, former volunteer soldiers, former Vietnamese experts; and a large number of Vietnamese, Cambodian and international students studying at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

In his opening speech, Permanent Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association Le Van Tuy said that the program is an opportunity for the youth of the two countries to strengthen their friendship, share and understand each other better, thereby becoming "ambassadors" contributing to fostering friendship, cooperation and sustainable development. Through the program, students exchange knowledge, culture and life skills; learn and support each other in studying and scientific research, in life, and more importantly, together nurture friendship so that later, wherever they are, whatever they do, they will still remember their youth studying and attached to beautiful memories in Vietnam. According to him, the spirit of solidarity, humanity and creativity of the youth will be a source of strength contributing to building a peaceful , cooperative and sustainable development future.

Welcoming the delegates and students, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Yen province Lai Van Hoan said that the locality always attaches importance to people-to-people diplomacy and accompanies international students. He highly appreciated the contributions of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association, especially the "Nurturing Friendship" Program mobilizing families to sponsor Cambodian students in difficult circumstances. Through the exchange program, the province hopes to expand cooperation with Cambodia in the fields of health, education - training, high-tech agriculture, processing industry, culture and tourism.

Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy currently trains more than 600 international students, including 297 Cambodian students. Over the past 60 years, the school has trained over 27,000 doctors and pharmacists for Vietnam and more than 1,200 doctors and pharmacists for Cambodia, Laos and Mozambique; Cambodia alone has 656 graduates. Many overseas students have returned to Vietnam to continue their postgraduate studies; holding important positions in medical facilities, becoming a bridge of friendship between Vietnam and other countries.

Speaking at the program, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chea Kimtha thanked the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association for coordinating the organization of meaningful exchange activities; highly appreciated the programs the Association has implemented in the past time, from commemorative activities, business forums to taking care of overseas students. The Ambassador expressed his thanks to the Party, State and people of Vietnam for supporting Cambodia, especially in the field of education; and believed that the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association and the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association will continue to coordinate closely, strengthening education for the young generation of the three countries about the tradition of solidarity, friendship and cooperation in many fields.

Student representatives from the two countries shared many touching stories about the close relationship and support in study and life. Student Chav Channy (National Economics University), President of the Cambodian Student Association in Vietnam, told about his first days in Vietnam with many surprises and warm feelings from teachers, friends and sponsor families. He affirmed that the young generation of Cambodia always remembers the contributions of former Vietnamese experts and former volunteer soldiers and will bring "Vietnamese hearts" when returning to their homeland. Student Le Dang Chau Anh (Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy) expressed his pride in studying in a close-knit international environment, where the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia is nurtured through every academic, artistic and sports activity.

The atmosphere was further enhanced by dance performances and songs about solidarity performed by students from both countries, which were youthful yet imbued with traditional identity. The highlight of the program was the campfire, where delegates and students sang "Vietnam - Cambodia Samaki" and "Holding Hands Together", expressing the spirit of friendship and solidarity.

At the event, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh awarded the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Medal to individuals who have made many contributions to the people's foreign affairs between Vietnam and Cambodia; presented gifts to relatives of martyrs and wounded soldiers; presented gifts to students and supported the "Nurturing Friendship" Fund.
