On the morning of May 22, in the rice fields of Cam Quang commune, Cam Xuyen district, large harvesters were operating at full capacity on each rice field. On the bank, many people were waiting for their turn to harvest their fields.
As the harvester finishes harvesting each field, the rice is quickly transferred to a tractor waiting on the bank. People are taking advantage of the sunny weather to speed up the harvesting and drying process.
Mr. Tran Ba Thanh (born in 1970, residing in village 10, Cam Quang commune, Cam Xuyen district) shared that this spring crop, his family sowed 1 mau 6 fields. Up to now, all the rice has ripened and 9 sao have been harvested. The family is currently putting aside other work to focus on harvesting the remaining area before the forecast that in the next few days, the weather in Ha Tinh will turn rainy.
“Hearing the forecast that from the afternoon of May 23, Ha Tinh will have thunderstorms, bad weather lasting 4-5 days, affecting the harvest and drying of rice, my family is trying to harvest all the fields in deep areas that have fallen due to the impact of the previous thunderstorm. In case of prolonged rain and wind, the fallen rice fields are very likely to sprout, affecting productivity,” Mr. Tran Ba Thanh shared.
Meanwhile, in the fields of Cam Vinh commune, Ha Tinh city, farmers are also trying to quickly harvest the ripe spring rice fields.
With the weather forecast that Ha Tinh will have rain and wind in the next few days, people are quite worried because at this time, spring rice is ripening simultaneously.
In case of prolonged unfavorable weather, the rice fields that were overturned due to the thunderstorm on May 10 are very susceptible to sprouting and damage, greatly affecting productivity. Overturned rice fields and rising water levels in the fields will make harvesting very difficult.
Along with "avoiding" unfavorable weather, focusing on harvesting spring rice also helps farmers follow the correct schedule for planting summer-autumn rice.
People are making the most of the sunny weather to speed up the harvesting process.

In some places, farmers even take advantage of the night to speed up the spring rice harvest.
In the 2025 spring crop, the whole province will cultivate 59,273 hectares. The estimated average yield of the whole province will reach 61.75 tons/ha, 0.58 tons/ha higher than the 2024 spring crop.
Mr. Nguyen Tong Phong - Deputy Head of the Department of Crop Production and Livestock (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ha Tinh) said: As of noon on May 22, localities had harvested 16,000 hectares, reaching a rate of nearly 27%. Localities with high spring rice harvest rates include Can Loc, Nghi Xuan, Cam Xuyen, Duc Tho, Ha Tinh City...
According to the forecast, from the afternoon of May 23, the weather will turn rainy; from May 24 to 27, it will be cloudy with scattered rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, especially on May 26 to 27, there is a possibility of heavy rain in some places; the common rainfall during this period ranges from 40 - 80mm, in some places over 100mm, the agricultural sector has directed localities to propagate, urge and support people to increase the harvest of spring rice, avoiding the effects of adverse weather.
In addition to quickly harvesting ripe rice fields, farmers need to pay attention to clearing the flow and creating ventilation for canals to limit flooding, causing damage to rice and making harvesting difficult after the rain.
The rice fields are ripe, if they encounter unfavorable weather, flooding the fields, it will likely affect the harvest process and reduce productivity. Video : Ha Tinh farmers rush to harvest spring rice to avoid adverse weather effects.
