Billionaire farmer in Ben Tre helps more than 100 households escape poverty

On December 10, the Ben Tre Farmers' Association summarized 5 years of the Billionaire Farmers' Club model accompanying the development of "three rural areas" in this province.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ban, Chairman of the Ben Tre Farmers' Association, said that the Billionaire Farmers' Club model was established by the Provincial Association in July 2018, with 20 members, and now has 415 members, including the provincial club and 9 district clubs. These are farmers with an income of 1 billion to 50 billion VND/year out of a total of 153,455 farmer members in the province.

These farmer billionaires are currently playing an important role in the process of building the value chains of key agricultural products of Ben Tre province, such as: ornamental flowers, durian, beef, seafood, coconut, longan... and in promoting the movement of building new rural areas, restructuring the agricultural sector associated with innovation of growth models in the "three rural areas" area.

During the activities of the Billionaire Farmers Club, members are informed by representatives of the Provincial Farmers' Association and local authorities about important policy and market issues that affect farmers. Good farmers will be willing to share and transfer their experiences and professional techniques in cultivation and animal husbandry that they have applied effectively to other farmers in need.

In addition to competing in good production and business, members of the Billionaire Farmer Club also participate in social security work. During their activities, the clubs have organized the giving of gifts, money, charity houses, seedlings, and interest-free production loans totaling over VND3 billion to poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged farmers. Over the past 5 years, in Ben Tre province, more than 100 poor farming households have escaped poverty sustainably thanks to the highly effective support from the Billionaire Farmer Clubs.

In addition, members also actively participate in new rural construction movements, contributing funds, land, flowers, and labor days to build bridges, roads, and rural traffic with an amount of over 5 billion VND.

Ms. Ho Thi Hoang Yen, Acting Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Minh Canh, Vice Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee, and delegates attended the 5-year review of the Billionaire Farmer model.

Attending the preliminary review, Ms. Ho Thi Hoang Yen, acting Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Ben Tre province, assessed that billionaire farmers in Ben Tre are pioneers in applying high-tech agricultural production models, applying organic standards... so that in recent years, Ben Tre's agricultural products have been increasingly exported to demanding markets in the world such as the EU, the US, Japan...

Ms. Ho Thi Hoang Yen hopes that, under the leadership of the Ben Tre Farmers' Association, the Billionaire Farmers' Clubs will continuously innovate their activities and improve their quality; while continuing to spread the inspiration to enrich farmers in the province. The Provincial Farmers' Association will further promote its role as a bridge between farmers and departments, branches, organizations and businesses consuming Ben Tre agricultural products.
