The collection "Am vong va LanV" by designer Ngoc Lan was launched in a series of activities of the exhibition "Am vong - From the Nine Tripods of the Nguyen Dynasty to contemporary creation", inspired by the relief of the nine Nine Tripods placed in the Imperial Citadel - Hue Imperial City. The Nine Tripods are one of the special cultural heritages of the Nguyen Dynasty, and in 2012, the Prime Minister signed a decision to classify them as national treasures. These are nine bronze urns cast by King Minh Mang in 1835 as a symbol of the dynasty's eternal strength and the prosperity of the Dai Nam nation. On each urn, there are 17 reliefs of 9 celestial phenomena, 9 mountains, 9 rivers, 9 animals, 9 medicinal plants... like an encyclopedia of the beautiful and unified Dai Nam period.
The collection includes 36 designs such as ao dai, dresses, cloaks, scarves... completed on traditional velvet and silk materials of Nha Xa weaving village with hand-embroidered motifs using shimmering, colorful silk threads, inherited from ancient royal motifs. Animal motifs such as dragons, phoenixes, chickens, birds..., plants such as bamboo, rice flowers, turmeric, areca trees or brilliant flowers such as wallflowers, hibiscus, jasmine... are vividly exploited on each costume model. All become a brilliant harmony that gives the public a different perspective on heritage.
Through the embroidery art in the new collection, Ngoc Lan wants to introduce the Nine Tripod Cauldrons to many different audiences in a new form, in order to help the special heritage of Vietnamese cultural history become more widely known in modern life. "I hope my collection will contribute a small part to the preservation of traditional cultural and artistic values, thereby promoting and creating contemporary cultural and artistic products with national identity and high applicability," Ngoc Lan confided.
