She is People's Armed Forces Hero Ngo Thi Tuyen.
Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyen was born in 1946 in Nam Ngan village (now Nam Ngan ward), Thanh Hoa city, in a poor family of 6 siblings. As a child, she often followed her parents to work in the fields. When she grew up, she followed her older siblings to work as a porter in the Ham Rong area. Later, she was enlightened about the revolution and joined the Nam Ngan village militia.
In the militia, the girl Ngo Thi Tuyen was trained in how to use infantry guns, 12.7mm guns, 37mm anti-aircraft guns and how to bandage wounds...
In April 1965, the US dropped massive bombs on Ham Rong Bridge - Thanh Hoa. Tuyen was only 19 years old at that time. In an urgent situation, the young militia girl lifted two boxes of ammunition onto her shoulders and carried them across deep trenches and raining bombs to supply her comrades.
The heroine Ngo Thi Tuyen was very small at that time, only 1.4m tall and weighed 42kg, but the two boxes of ammunition weighed 98kg. So her actions surprised the whole world .

Recalling the story of loading nearly 100kg of ammunition, Ms. Tuyen said that at that time she had no idea how heavy the two boxes of ammunition were, she just picked them up randomly because the artillery position was in dire need of them.
After this event, many foreign journalists came to Thanh Hoa to meet Ms. Tuyen. They also wanted to verify by asking Ms. Tuyen to carry the equivalent of 2 boxes of ammunition (50kg of potatoes and 55kg of rice). Then the little militia girl did it, once again proving to the world the great strength of the Vietnamese people.
"I weighed 42 kg and carried 2 boxes of ammunition weighing 98 kg. Talking about physics, Soviet journalists did not believe it, they asked me to do it again, 1 head of potatoes, 1 head of rice added up to 105 kg. When I did it, it made you believe, the world believed in the Vietnamese people's war. It was wonderful, when the enemy came to everyone's house, they joined the fight, old, young, women, men gathered to go to battle, without fear, with hatred for the enemy, serving the victorious battle" , Lieutenant Colonel, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Ngo Thi Tuyen once shared.
With her extraordinary bravery during the fighting and serving in the war against the American invaders to protect Ham Rong bridge, female militia Ngo Thi Tuyen was awarded two First and Second Class Military Exploit Medals by the Party and State and was chosen as a delegate of Thanh Hoa province to attend the National Heroes and Emulation Soldiers Festival held in Hanoi .
Notably in 1967, when she was just 21 years old, female militiawoman Nam Ngan Ngo Thi Tuyen was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
