Lois Boisson's magical journey, currently ranked 361st in the world , continues at Roland Garros 2025.
After knocking out third seed Jessica Pegula in the previous round, the French player who received a wildcard continued to shock when defeating sixth seed Mirra Andreeva 7-6, 6-3 on June 4. Her victory took place in front of a enthusiastically cheered home crowd, sending the 22-year-old into the French Open semi-finals.
The first set saw both players battle it out in every shot. Boisson was twice broken behind but was extremely resilient in turning the game around.
She impressed with her heavy spin and deep shots close to the baseline to trouble her Russian opponent. Andreeva gradually became nervous at important points and missed the chance to finish the set when leading 5-3.

Despite saving three set points and forcing her opponent into a tie-break, Andreeva eventually "gave" the first set to Boisson with two consecutive backhand errors.
Andreeva came back strongly at the start of the second set, quickly taking a 3-0 lead. But Boisson regained the break with a powerful backhand down the line.
Andreeva then received a warning for missing a simple forehand drop shot and angrily hitting the ball into the stands. She made a few more errors and could not recover, accepting a 3-6 defeat.
Just a year ago, Boisson tore her left knee's anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) just a week before her home Grand Slam began, ruling her out of the tournament. Now, she has a chance to reach the final.
In a post-match interview, Boisson could not hide his emotions: "It's unbelievable, looking back at what happened last year and all the difficulties I went through."

Before making headlines in Paris, 22-year-old Boisson was virtually unknown in professional tennis. She was playing in her first Grand Slam main draw and became the first woman to reach the semifinals on her Grand Slam debut since 1989. Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati have done the same at Roland Garros.
She is also the youngest French player to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since Amelie Mauresmo at Wimbledon in 1999. The last time a French woman won at Roland-Garros was Mary Pierce, 25 years ago.
The win would give her a significant jump in the rankings. Boisson reached a career-high ranking of 152 last year before her knee injury.
The tennis star is certain to climb to at least No. 68 next week. That ranking could go even higher if she continues to create a third consecutive shock against No. 2 seed Coco Gauff in the semifinals.
In the last four years, there have been two unseeded players who reached the French Open final: champion Barbora Krejcikova (2021) and Karolina Muchova (2023).
