Civet farming initially achieved economic efficiency

Việt NamViệt Nam06/03/2024

Recently, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan (Cau Kinh hamlet, An Luc Long commune, Chau Thanh district) sold 100 breeding mink, earning a profit of about 500 million VND.

Mr. Nhan has more than 10 years of experience raising goats, but one night, he happened to watch TV and saw information about the civet farming model of a farm in the West, so he decided to try it out. In 2017, Mr. Nhan went to a farm in Ca Mau province to buy 4 pairs of civets for 18 million VND/head. During the breeding process, he saw that the civets reproduced and brought high economic efficiency, so he boldly invested in a breeding farm.

Taking advantage of the vacant land around his house, Mr. Nhan built a barn and applied for a certificate to raise wild animals. Thanks to his diligence in learning techniques, he successfully multiplied the herd and maintained the current number of minks at about 60 parents. To raise minks effectively, he built a farm with an area of 100m2 , divided into 4 areas for breeding minks, reserve minks and baby minks. In particular, the breeding mink area invested in a modern cage system with iron mesh and a system of drinking water directly to each cage. Mink waste is treated every day to minimize odors.

The characteristics of wild weasels are omnivorous, so they are easy to raise, rarely get sick, and require little care. Their main food is bananas, jackfruit, catfish, etc., so each weasel only costs about 2,000-3,000 VND per day for food. Weasels like to eat dragon fruit and bananas, so he sets aside 0.2 hectares of land to grow bananas to provide food for the weasels. Each year, weasels give birth to 3 litters, each litter has 2-5 weasels. Currently, each weasel costs about 20 million VND. In the past, he sold 100 weasel breeds, making a profit of about 500 million VND.

From building a proper barn and raising it properly, mink can develop well, initially bringing economic efficiency./.
