According to Neowin , in this partnership, MediaTek will develop SoCs using Nvidia GPUs running the Nvidia DRIVE platform. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that this move will not only benefit owners of high-end vehicles but also low-end models to have this experience.
The cooperation between the two companies helps open up a bright future for popular car models.
“The combination of MediaTek’s leading SoC plus Nvidia’s GPU and AI (artificial intelligence) software technology will bring new user experiences, enhanced safety and new connected services to all vehicle segments, from luxury to economy,” said Mr. Huang.
Chips provided by Nvidia will help the Dimensity Auto platform become better, improving performance for customers. Dimensity Auto is MediaTek's in-car solution that brings modern cockpit and entertainment features to equipped vehicles.
Commenting on the relationship, MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai said: “Nvidia is a world- renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, ushering in the next generation of connected, intelligent vehicles. Through this unique collaboration with Nvidia, together we will deliver a truly unique platform for the software-defined, compute-intensive vehicle of the future.”
Last week, Nvidia’s stock price jumped $80 to around $380, driven by demand for AI chips to power things like ChatGPT. However, it’s unclear what impact the announcement of the partnership with MediaTek will have on Nvidia’s stock price.
Nvidia’s recent surge has been fueled by AI, a technology that’s also benefiting other companies like Microsoft and Google. As consumers look to cut back on spending, innovative AI systems appear to be helping tech companies weather the storm.
