Ensuring safety in mineral exploitation
Present at Khanh Hoa Coal Company (under Viet Bac Mining Industry Corporation - TKV) these days, we noticed that the working atmosphere of the staff and workers here is as usual. In fact, at the coal mining sites, we witnessed workers urgently transporting waste rock and soil to ensure mining according to plan.
Mr. Vu Thanh Hung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Coal Company, informed: Receiving the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Dai Tu district, the Company has established a Command Committee for prevention and response to storm No. 3. During the storm, the Company arranged 3 excavators, 10 large trucks to prepare for incidents. Assigned staff to be on duty 24/24 hours at the waste dumps. At the same time, the Company coordinated with An Khanh commune (Dai Tu); Phuc Ha, Son Cam ( Thai Nguyen city) to develop a plan to support local people to evacuate when there is flooding. With the Company's initiative following the "four on-site" motto, storm No. 3 did not greatly affect the unit's production. After the storm, there is still a large amount of water in the coal mining areas, the unit will focus on pumping out water to maintain production, ensure jobs for workers and supply coal to thermal power plants.
For Dai Tu Tin Factory under Thai Nguyen Nonferrous Metals Joint Stock Company - VIMICO, the unit has proactively reviewed and consolidated key locations to ensure safety. In each workshop and each area, there is a sub-committee for natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, with 15-20 people ready to respond to emergencies when incidents occur.
“To ensure production, the Enterprise has increased the rental of 2 more backup transformers in case of power outages so as not to affect production. During the stormy days, the Board of Directors, leaders of departments, workshops, and the automobile and excavator departments are always on duty to promptly handle any incidents that occur. During the storm, the unit was proactive, all minor incidents were under control, and after the flood, the entire Enterprise was safe and there was no damage,” Mr. Vu Xuan Giang, Deputy Director of Dai Tu Tin Enterprise, informed us.
In the province, there are currently 7 mine waste dumps (with large volumes of waste) from mineral mines with open-pit mining activities, specifically: Nui Phao Polymetallic Tungsten Mine, Tien Bo Iron Mine, Phan Me Coal Mine, Trai Cau Iron Mine; Nui Hong Coal Mine, Khanh Hoa Coal Mine, Minh Tien Coal Mine and 12 tailings reservoirs.
Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 3, closely following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Trade , and the Department of Industry and Trade, enterprises have focused on mobilizing forces, developing plans, and preparing human and material resources to ensure the safety of tailings ponds and reservoirs in mineral exploitation and processing before, during and after the storm season. Thanks to that, up to now, tailings ponds and mine waste ponds in the province have remained safe, with no cracks, collapses, or seepage through the dam body.
Business production according to plan
During the days affected by storm No. 3, Thai Nguyen Electrolytic Zinc Factory (belonging to Thai Nguyen Nonferrous Metals Joint Stock Company - VIMICO) still maintained 3 continuous shifts of production. The factory currently has 320 workers working according to a stable payroll. The factory's leaders have encouraged staff and workers to stay at the factory during the storm, work overtime, and limit travel. To ensure production, during the days affected by the storm, the factory has directed the canteen service department to increase food rations and arrange accommodation for workers to limit travel and ensure safety for workers.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dat, Deputy Director of Thai Nguyen Electrolytic Zinc Factory, emphasized: Upon receiving information about storm No. 3, the Factory established a steering committee for natural disaster prevention. Then we deployed plans to prepare materials, tools, tarpaulins, and means to prevent and fight floods and storms. When the storm made landfall, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention was on duty 24/7, thoroughly informing staff and workers to strictly follow instructions on flood and storm prevention, ensuring safety in production. With those solutions, the Factory's production activities during the rainy and stormy days were guaranteed to follow the plan.
Currently, in the industrial parks in the province, there are a total of 309 projects with valid investment registration certificates. Enterprises in the industrial parks are creating jobs for 96,000 workers. Proactively responding to storm No. 3, the Provincial Industrial Parks Management Board has directed industrial park infrastructure investors and enterprises to strengthen inspection, ensure technical infrastructure systems, promptly warn, establish safety systems for areas at risk of being affected by floods; promptly implement reinforcement, repair, and cover of factories, offices, warehouses, and storage yards.
Thanks to that, enterprises in industrial zones in Thai Nguyen operate normally in stormy weather. The number of workers working in industrial zones has reached nearly 100%.
With the active initiative of all levels, sectors and enterprises, although storm No. 3 severely affected many sectors, industrial production in the area was not much affected. Enterprises are making efforts to produce year-end orders with the goal of exceeding the set plan.
