Recently, not only in the inner city, many families in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City have also organized the raising of stingless bees for honey. Stingless bees - a wild animal that is still very strange to the people of Saigon, but has a high economic value.

Raising stingless bees from inner city to suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City
Unlike many other livestock in Ho Chi Minh City, stingless bee farming has developed from the inner city to the suburbs. Currently, in Thu Duc City, Binh Thanh District, Hoc Mon District, Nha Be District... many households raise stingless bees with 200 - 300 nests/household.
People raise stingless bees for honey on balconies, terraces, walls, gardens... in general, anywhere where they can place a stingless bee box.
The characteristics of stingless bees are that they are not poisonous and do not sting people. Stingless bees are purely pets.
Therefore, in addition to raising stingless bees for honey for business, many people raise stingless bees as pets in their homes, both for entertainment and to have honey for their families when the weather changes...

In Phuoc Kien commune (Nha Be district, Ho Chi Minh City), the model of raising stingless bees for honey has been developed for 2 years now. The person raising stingless bees for honey on the largest scale with 100 boxes is Mr. Pham Hoang Phuc, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Kien commune.

Mr. Pham Hoang Phuc said he has been raising stingless bees for 2 years now. The stingless bee colony is developing very well.
Regarding the technique of separating stingless bee colonies, Mr. Phuc said that depending on the goal of the stingless beekeeper, priority should be given to collecting honey or separating the colony.
Accordingly, during the year, Mr. Pham Hoang Phuc, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Kien commune, separated 2-6 swarms from a stingless bee nest (depending on the size of the nest and the number of queen bees).
Accordingly, each year Mr. Phuc collects honey from stingless bees twice. Each stingless bee hive Mr. Phuc collects more than half a liter of honey per year. It is known that currently on the market in Ho Chi Minh City, the price of stingless bee honey is 1.7 - 1.9 million VND/liter.
Honey has many health benefits compared to other types of honey in terms of medicinal properties, such as purifying the body, helping to regulate blood sugar levels, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic.

In addition, honey also supports the treatment of respiratory diseases such as flu, colds, coughs, sore throats, sinusitis...
Honey also has the effect of strengthening the immune system, improving resistance and nourishing the health of weak people, people who have just recovered from illness or have just undergone surgery...
According to Mr. Phuc, people who raise stingless bees for honey do not have to worry about the bees not being able to collect honey because there are not many flowering plants in urban areas. Stingless bees can collect honey within a radius of 1km.
Currently, in Ho Chi Minh City, online stingless bee farming groups have been formed to create a playground and combine business. In these groups, stingless bee farmers train themselves in techniques of raising, separating swarms, collecting honey, packing boxes, etc.

Replicating stingless bee farming model
There are many different prices for beekeeping boxes on the market. For example, the price of a beekeeping box for pet owners is 2-5 million VND/box (including box and bees).
In particular, the price of commercial stingless beekeeping boxes is currently being sold on the market for 1.2 - 1.5 million VND/box.
Mr. Phuc said that Ho Chi Minh City is currently developing the honey bee farming industry. The Farmers' Association of Phuoc Loc commune is developing a honey bee farming model in the commune.
It is known that recently, the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Kien commune, Nha Be district (HCMC) organized a training session on urban agriculture model.
In which, the model of raising stingless bees in the city is built and presented as a specialized topic: Separating the colony and collecting honey to help members multiply the colony after 6 months of raising.
Currently, in Phuoc Kien commune, there are 15 members participating in researching and raising stingless bees, which is bringing high economic efficiency.
Mr. Pham Van Hai, a beekeeper in the commune, assessed that beekeeping for honey for business purposes has very good economic potential, because the price of bee honey is quite high, while the beekeeper only invests once, does not have to spend on food, and requires little care...
"The Phuoc Kien Commune Farmers' Association, Nha Be District (HCMC) will build a cooperative to raise stingless bees for honey. This is a suitable direction given the increasingly shrinking agricultural land fund due to urbanization," said Mr. Pham Hoang Phuc, Chairman of the Commune Farmers' Association.
