On September 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed the Decisions on receiving, transferring and appointing leaders of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. In Decision No. 1880/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister received and appointed Mr. Le Van Loi - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics to hold the position of President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.
In Decision No. 1886/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister accepted and appointed Mr. Tran Hong Thai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Lam Dong province to hold the position of Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. The above decisions take effect from September 3, 2025.
Mr. Tran Hong Thai (born in 1974, from Can Loc, Ha Tinh province) graduated from university in Russia, defended his PhD thesis in Earth Sciences and Mathematics at Heidelberg University (Germany). Mr. Tran Hong Thai was a researcher at the Institute of Hydrometeorology, then became the leader of this institute.
Afterwards, Mr. Tran Hong Thai was transferred to be Deputy Director General of the National Center for Hydrometeorology. When the National Center for Hydrometeorology was transformed into the General Department of Hydrometeorology, Mr. Thai held the position of Deputy Director General.
In 2018, Mr. Tran Hong Thai was assigned to be in charge of the General Department and in March 2019 he was appointed to the position of Director General of the General Department of Hydrometeorology.
In 2023, the Prime Minister appointed Mr. Tran Hong Thai - General Director of the General Department of Hydrometeorology to hold the position of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.
After that, he was mobilized and appointed to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, holding the position of Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lam Dong province. After the reorganization and merger of the province, Mr. Tran Hong Thai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee was appointed to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Council of Lam Dong province for the 2021-2026 term.
