It is unclear whether Mr Trump is referring to all foreigners or just those with student visas. Mr Trump's campaign said only the "highest skilled graduates" would be able to stay after "the most thorough vetting process".

During his 2017-2021 term, Mr. Trump restricted H-1B visas and tried to force foreign students to leave the U.S. if their schools held online classes during the pandemic. After strong opposition, the administration withdrew the order.

Mr. Trump also criticized the Biden administration for controlling the number of illegal border crossings. In the interview, Mr. Trump also ruled out sending U.S. troops to Ukraine and expressed skepticism about Ukraine joining NATO. Regarding abortion rights, Mr. Trump said he would not support a federal ban.
