Palmer is said to have special feelings for MU. |
Palmer was born and raised in Manchester. The youngster spent more than a decade with the Man City academy before playing for the first team for three seasons. However, his career only really took off after moving to Chelsea in the summer of 2023. At Stamford Bridge, Palmer quickly became a mainstay for the "The Blues", making a strong impression in the Premier League and being called up to the England national team.
Things could have been very different, though. Speaking on The Athletic 's Talk of the Devils podcast , Colin Little, who is now in charge of the U18s, revealed that Palmer had been a big fan of the Red Devils since he was a kid. The 22-year-old striker had the chance to play for his favourite club.
"I knew Cole Palmer's family quite well, his father and his uncle. When Cole was about 16, we were very close to signing him, believe it or not. At that time, Cole was hesitant, and I knew he was a big United fan," Little said.
He added: "At that time, he was at the right age to leave, 16 years old. Man City were also hesitant about his future. But then they made an offer good enough to keep Cole. However, he always loved United, and the deal was really close. It was a pity."
Palmer withdrew from the England squad in March due to a muscle injury, but has returned to training. Coach Enzo Maresca is considering including him in the squad for the Premier League clash with Tottenham on 4 April.
Premier League stars with the biggest price increases this season Cole Palmer (Chelsea) leads the list of Premier League players with the biggest price increases this season, with 50 million euros. Ethan Nwaneri and Gravenberch also made impressive progress.
