MU academy coach Colin Little revealed that Cole Palmer was very close to joining the youth training center of the Old Trafford team.

Palmer is said to have special feelings for MU.

Palmer was born and raised in Manchester. The youngster spent more than a decade with the Man City academy before playing for the first team for three seasons. "I knew Cole Palmer's family quite well, his father and his uncle. When Cole was about 16, we were very close to signing him, believe it or not. At that time, Cole was hesitant, and I knew he was a big United fan," Little said.

He added: "At that time, he was at the right age to leave, 16 years old. Man City were also hesitant about his future. But then they made an offer good enough to keep Cole. However, he always loved United, and the deal was really close. It was a pity."

Palmer withdrew from the England squad in March due to a muscle injury, but has returned to training. Coach Enzo Maresca is considering including him in the squad for the Premier League clash with Tottenham on 4 April.
