On the afternoon of November 8, at the regular Government press conference, answering reporters' questions about solutions to limit counterfeit and fake goods on e-commerce platforms today, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan affirmed that, first of all, it must be recognized that the current e-commerce business method is growing very well.
“In 2025, we expect a growth rate of about 25-27%. This is a very high growth rate,” said Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan.
According to the Deputy Minister, e-commerce relies on the digital environment to bring goods to consumers conveniently and quickly, contributing to the overall growth of domestic trade. It can be affirmed that most businesses that put goods on the floor comply with regulations and provide genuine goods. The rate of counterfeit and fake goods accounts for only a small part and we can see this very clearly in reality.
However, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan also acknowledged that there still exists a situation of counterfeit, fake, imitation, poor quality goods, and goods that infringe intellectual property rights mixed in through business methods in the electronic environment.
"The Ministry of Industry and Trade is representing the Government to report to the National Assembly to develop the Law on E-commerce, which continues to clearly define the responsibilities of each entity on the e-commerce platform," the Deputy Minister informed.
Along with that, the Ministry is implementing a project approved by the Prime Minister on preventing counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods in the e-commerce environment.
“We organize many regular and continuous inspections and controls. In the middle of last year, there was a peak month under the direction of the Prime Minister to simultaneously deploy, thereby preventing and repelling many incidents. However, the Ministry of Industry and Trade determined that this work must be maintained regularly, not just at peak times," Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan affirmed.
Regarding the responsibilities of e-commerce platform owners, the law clearly stipulates that platform owners must control the origin of goods posted on the platform, invoices and documents must be complete; when delivering goods, there must be a mechanism for checking and monitoring to protect consumer rights. If counterfeit or fake goods are detected, within 24 hours, the seller's booth must be removed. The handling regulations are complete and will be applied according to authority.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade determined that although e-commerce activities take place in the digital environment, goods are still delivered in reality. Therefore, the authorities need to focus on inspecting warehouses and production facilities related to counterfeit and fake goods.
"We are very pleased that the growth rate of e-commerce is as high as it is now. That shows that consumers have confidence in this business method," Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said, hoping that in the coming time, the forces will continue to coordinate with the owners of e-commerce platforms to prevent and repel the situation of counterfeit and fake goods in the e-commerce environment.
