On July 29, 2023, the Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam Post Corporation will issue a postage stamp set "Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of painter Nguyen Sang (1923-2023)" including 1 stamp with a face value of 4,000 VND and a size of 46 x 31 (mm).
The stamp set was issued on the opening day within the framework of the 4th Mekong Delta Postage Stamp Exhibition and will be available on the postal network from July 29, 2023 to June 30, 2025.
The stamp set "Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of painter Nguyen Sang (1923-2023)" was designed by painters Nguyen Du and Pham Quang Dieu (Vietnam Post Corporation) in a graphic style depicting the familiar portrait of painter Nguyen Sang and the work "The enemy burned my village". This is the first time this work has been introduced on a postage stamp, expressing the love between the army and the people of the Northwest, Vietnamese villages are engulfed in smoke, hunger, pain and the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers fighting day and night to protect the Fatherland without fear of sacrificing blood and bones.
Painter Nguyen Sang was born on August 1, 1923 in Dieu Hoa village, My Tho province (now My Tho city, Tien Giang province). In 1938, he passed the entrance exam to the Indochina College of Fine Arts. In August 1945, he joined the revolution in Hanoi. At the end of December 1946, he went to the Viet Bac resistance zone, using his drawings to serve the nation's resistance.
Nguyen Sang has many outstanding contributions to modern Vietnamese painting. He is one of the four artists in the group of the second quartet of talented painters in the country's painting village - "first Sang, second Lien, third Nghiem, fourth Phai". His paintings include many genres, and he is successful in all of them.
Regarding the theme of war, he has works such as: "The enemy burned my village", "Joining the Party in Dien Bien Phu", "Marching in the rain", "The soldiers take a nap on the hill", "Young people in the citadel", etc. Regarding the genre of portrait painting, he has two famous works: "Tu hoa" and "Khong gian". He is a master of description, highlighting both the personality and characteristics of the characters. In addition, he also painted on many different themes, such as women and flowers in "Thieu nu ben hoa sen", the ancient and splendid beauty of the pagoda "Thap Pho Minh", the deep and majestic mountain and forest scene "Pac Bo", the peaceful and peaceful countryside scene "Thieu nu trong canh banana", scenes recording folk games "Choi buffalo", "Dau dau" ... He is one of the Vietnamese painters who skillfully uses many painting materials.
Artist Nguyen Sang also designed the first set of revolutionary postage stamps of Vietnam bearing the portrait of President Ho Chi Minh (1946).
He was posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts, first phase, in 1996 by the State and many other noble awards.
Painter Nguyen Sang died on December 16, 1988 in Ho Chi Minh City. His name is recorded in the Larousse Encyclopedia - France.
