On April 13, information from the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board ( Quang Binh ) said that BCRA had just finished a 3-week survey trip in Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa districts and Phong Nha - Ke Bang area, discovering 22 more pristine caves.
Underground river system discovered in caves in Lam Hoa commune
Specifically, BCRA organized a survey with explorers from Australia and New Zealand and discovered 22 new caves with a total length of nearly 12 km. Of which, 20 caves were discovered in Lam Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district) and 2 communes of Hoa Phuc and Hoa Son (Minh Hoa district); the remaining 2 caves are in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park area.
Most of the caves above are wet caves, still retaining their wild beauty. Many caves also have underground river systems and some other caves are connected to each other.
The new caves are small but interesting with multiple entrances and exits and some of them are connected.
Previously, as Thanh Nien reported, in 5 days from March 12 to March 17, BCRA set up a team to survey the rocky mountain area in Lam Hoa commune and discovered a system of 5 caves with a total length of about 3 km that had never been known before, including: Hung Tru 1, Hung Tru 2, Hung Tru 3, Hung Ka Vong 1, Hung Ka Vong 2 near Chuoi village (Lam Hoa commune).
On March 26, the BCRA survey team returned and continued the survey, discovering more caves in Tuyen Hoa District, Minh Hoa District and Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. In total, 22 caves were discovered.
Mr. Howard Limbert, the cave exploration team leader of BCRA, said that the newly discovered caves have a very different beauty compared to the caves found previously in Quang Binh, although small but quite interesting. While Son Doong, Hang En and many other caves only have one main entrance, this new cave system has many different entrances.
In the coming time, the explorers and the authorities of Quang Binh province plan to continue surveying and checking the safety, flow, and geology of these caves to exploit them for tourism purposes.
