Participants are given vouchers for free fruit and vegetables for up to 10 months.

Results showed that people who consumed more fruits and vegetables had lower blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and body mass index.

Just one extra serving of fruits and vegetables a day can reduce your risk of disease.

Research shows that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is half as effective as medication.

This is a great way to prevent and potentially reverse certain diseases, says Dr. Ron Hunninghake, Medical Director at Riordan Clinic (USA).

Consuming one extra serving of fruits and vegetables per day has been linked to a reduced risk of disease.

Adding more fruits and vegetables, while cutting back on sweets and processed foods, can help people with metabolic syndrome — like diabetes — reduce their medication use, says Dr. Hunninghake.

However, the doctor also noted that even if the patient has formed the habit of eating more fruits and vegetables, he or she should not stop taking medication on his or her own.

Dr. Hunninghake points out that a healthy diet in general, especially fruits and vegetables, is key to preventing and controlling disease.

Phytonutrients in fruits and vegetables help control metabolic syndrome – a root cause of many diseases, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia, and even cancer.

Professor Mitchell Elkind, Director of Clinical Science at the American Heart Association, also said: Poor nutrition is a major cause of chronic disease globally, including diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular complications, including heart failure, heart attack and stroke, according to the Mirror .
