Billiards: Korea is a 'dangerous land', 2 Vietnamese players won tickets to the knockout round

7 Vietnamese players are present in the round of 32 of the Gwangju 2025 Billiards World Cup, but only 2 of them will compete in the knockout round.

The 7 Vietnamese players competing in the 32nd round of the Gwangju 2025 Billiards World Cup are: Tran Quyet Chien , Tran Thanh Luc, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu, Nguyen Chi Long, Chiem Hong Thai, Dao Van Ly, Le Thanh Tien. Of which, Quyet Chien and Thanh Luc are the players who were given special permission to play from the final round because they are in the top 14 of the world rankings. However, only 2 names won tickets to continue: Dao Van Ly and Nguyen Chi Long.

Notably, both players who qualified for the knockout round (16 players) were in group A (a group with 3 Vietnamese players: Tran Thanh Luc, Dao Van Ly, Nguyen Chi Long). Van Ly and Chi Long respectively ranked first and second in group F. Van Ly excellently advanced with a record of 3 wins (against Thanh Luc, Chi Long and Tolgahan Kiraz). Chi Long won 2 (Tolgahan Kiraz and Thanh Luc), lost 1 (against Dao Van Ly).

Dao Van Ly excellently continued with a record of winning all 3 matches.

Korea is probably a "dangerous land" for Vietnamese players, when names that received great expectations all stopped early in the round of 32. Vietnam's number 1 players Tran Quyet Chien, Tran Thanh Luc, Chiem Hong Thai, and Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu all stopped in the round of 32. Previously, the 2023 World Championship champion Bao Phuong Vinh also said goodbye to the tournament from the fourth qualifying round.

Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Luc left the tournament with a record of 3 consecutive losses. Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu and Le Thanh Tien had 1 win and 2 losses. Chiem Hong Thai drew 1 and lost 2.
