Detection of fake bronchodilators, main active ingredient only reaches 6.3%

(Dan Tri) - The Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) has just announced that it has discovered that the sample of Theophylline Extended Release Tablets 200mg (Theophylin 200mg) does not meet quality requirements. The concentration of Theophyllin 200mg is only 6.3%.

Specifically, through inspection, the Hanoi Center for Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing discovered that the sample of Theophylline Extended Release Tablets 200mg (Theophylin 200mg) did not meet the quality requirements for the quantitative index of Theophyllin, only reaching 6.3% compared to the content stated on the label.

Drug samples were taken at An An pharmacy (Ha Dong, Hanoi)

This batch of medicine has batch number 21127, production date 26-2-2022, expiration date 26-2-2026; manufactured by Pharmacy Laboratories Plus. The medicine sample does not have information about the GĐKLH number (circulation registration certificate) and/or GPNK number (import license), and the importing facility on the label.

Therefore, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests that health departments coordinate with competent authorities to inspect, verify, and trace the origin of the above-mentioned counterfeit drugs. At the same time, testing centers need to increase sampling and quality testing of drugs in circulation in the area for drugs at risk of being counterfeit or of poor quality.

To ensure public safety, the Department also requested the Hanoi Department of Health to urgently report to Steering Committee 389 and coordinate with the police, market management and relevant authorities to inspect and examine An An Pharmacy.

The Department also needs to trace the origin of the product batch with the above information and strictly handle violators according to regulations.

The Department also requested that units notify drug trading and usage establishments and people not to buy/sell or use the above products; promptly report any suspicious signs of production and trading of counterfeit drugs or drugs of unknown origin to health agencies and relevant authorities.
