In the context of complex weather conditions, Dak Lak's agricultural sector has shown remarkable flexibility in transforming its production structure. Transforming the structure of crops and livestock and arranging varieties suitable for each season not only helps optimize land use but also minimizes risks caused by the market and weather.
According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the value of total agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first quarter of 2025 reached 105.14% (an increase of 5.14% over the same period in 2024 and 1.11% higher than the increase of 4.03% in the first quarter of 2024). In particular, the crop sector has made remarkable progress: the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop planting area exceeded the plan, reaching 69,360 hectares (equal to 110.1% of the plan) and increased by 5.75% (equivalent to an increase of over 3,700 hectares) over the same period in 2024.
This shows the efforts of farmers in increasing production. Key crops such as rice, corn, sweet potatoes, green vegetables, beans of all kinds, cassava, sugarcane, and tobacco are well cared for, promising a bumper crop. Perennial crops, especially industrial crops (coffee, rubber, pepper, etc.) and fruit trees with high economic value continue to be expanded, with a total area of 373,772 hectares, an increase of 4.3% (equivalent to an increase of over 15,000 hectares) over the same period in 2024, helping to increase farmers' income and create agricultural products with high export value.

Livestock also recorded positive results with a total livestock herd of about 18.77 million, an increase of 21.3% (equivalent to an increase of over 3 million) over the same period in 2024. Meat output reached 83,197 tons, an increase of 25.49% (equivalent to about 17,000 tons) and egg output reached 97 million, an increase of 2.65% (equivalent to about 2.5 million eggs) over the same period in 2024. The aquaculture sector also made positive contributions with an estimated aquaculture output of 4,110 tons, an increase of 7% (equivalent to 274 tons) over the same period in 2024. Notably, in the first quarter of 2025, the province exported high-value aquatic products (sturgeon) for about 17 billion VND.
“To renew traditional growth drivers and promote the agricultural pillar in the province’s economy, it is necessary to increase the application of science, technology, and digital transformation in production. At the same time, sustainably develop key crops, form raw material areas, and build product brands to meet export requirements to increase the value of agricultural production, contributing to achieving the growth target of over 8% by 2025.” - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee |
Mr. Nguyen Minh Huan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that one of the bright spots is the stability of prices of key agricultural products such as coffee, pepper, and durian.
This contributes significantly to maintaining stable income for rural people. In addition, the management and implementation of land policies are carried out transparently and fairly. This is an important foundation for building trust and encouraging investment in agriculture.
Although many difficulties and challenges are forecasted in the coming time, the positive results from the fields of cultivation, livestock, aquaculture and forestry show that the province's agricultural production is not only stable but also expanding. This creates a solid foundation for Dak Lak agriculture to achieve or exceed the proposed growth scenario, contributing to the province's growth target of over 8% in 2025.
In the current context, Dak Lak's agricultural sector is still facing many difficulties and challenges. In particular, major export markets are constantly changing regulations, requiring agricultural enterprises to regularly update and respond flexibly. The US's plan to impose a 46% reciprocal tax on Vietnamese goods also creates a big challenge for agricultural exports. Therefore, to ensure the growth scenario in 2025, Dak Lak's agricultural sector is focusing on synchronously implementing solutions.
In particular, focusing on effectively restructuring the agricultural sector, promoting propaganda to raise awareness of the importance of ensuring agricultural growth. Particularly for industrial crops, Dak Lak identifies coffee as the main product and focuses on building the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee brand, aiming to become a "destination for world coffee". The province will also gradually change the structure of export goods towards increasing the proportion of deeply processed goods.

According to Mr. Trinh Duc Minh, Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, the issue that needs attention now is to reduce costs in the coffee industry, especially in the production stage. Because currently the cost of Vietnamese coffee is at risk of being higher than Brazilian coffee, it will be very difficult to compete in the US market as well as many other markets. Therefore, to reduce costs, it is necessary to increase investment in science and technology in production to optimize productivity and quality, thereby reducing costs.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Minh Huan said that attracting investment in the agricultural sector, especially enterprises with strong potential, is also an important solution. The province will synchronously deploy solutions to attract investment in the processing and preservation industry and promote exports. In addition, improving the quality of human resources to develop modern and smart agriculture.
Dak Lak will have a plan to train and foster farmers to raise awareness and understanding, as well as improve the quality of cooperative human resources and officials at all levels. The province will also focus on building a legal corridor, a sector-wide database system, digitizing processes in the agricultural value chain and synchronously connecting with other economic sectors.
At the same time, Dak Lak will promptly and effectively implement the Central Government's mechanisms and policies and supplement specific local policies to support agricultural development.
