Looking back on the nearly 10-year journey of implementing the Provincial Party Committee’s policy on developing fruit trees on sloping land, Moc Chau town has achieved impressive results. With the close direction of the local Party Committee and government, and the consensus and response of the people, the hillsides that were previously planted with low-yield corn and cassava have now been replaced by lush green fruit orchards.
Moc Chau town has 11,481 hectares of fruit trees, an increase of 8,530 hectares compared to 2015. The output of all kinds of fruit reaches nearly 56,000 tons/year, an increase of more than 38,000 tons compared to 2015. Boldly investing in new varieties, applying advanced technical processes, and applying high technology, helps many orchards earn from 200-400 million VND/ha, with some models even reaching 800 million to 1 billion VND/ha.
Mr. Le Trong Binh, Chairman of Moc Chau Town People's Committee, informed: With the viewpoint of " Agriculture supports tourism", the town is focusing on building and developing unique and attractive agricultural tourism models. Plum and apricot gardens with white flowers every spring, hills of ripe oranges full of fruit, gardens of ripe red roses... not only create income from agricultural products, but also become unmissable tourist destinations, attracting visitors to Moc Chau.
Visit the plum garden of Mr. Tran Xuan Kha's family, Pa Khen residential group, Co Do ward with an area of over 2 hectares. Every year, when the plum blossoms bloom and the plums ripen, many tourists come to experience. Mr. Kha is excited: Since switching to growing plums following VietGAP, combined with tourism, my family has an income of over 1 billion VND/year. I am investing in grafting and renovating 2,000 m2 of new plum trees that bloom late, but still produce early, large and beautiful fruit, serving tourists who come to take pictures during the blooming season and experience picking plums in the plum crop next year.
In Residential Group 68, Van Son Ward, the orange garden of Mr. Ha Van Chien's family has become a famous destination, attracting tourists when the fruit is ripe. Mr. Chien shared: My family grows more than 1 hectare of oranges organically. During the orange season, on weekends, the family welcomes more than 1,000 visitors. Many tourists, after experiencing and enjoying the oranges in the garden, also buy them as gifts. Thanks to that, the oranges do not have to worry about output, bringing a high income for the family of over 3 billion VND/year.
To promote and introduce agricultural products, Moc Chau regularly organizes events and festivals related to agricultural products such as: Plum Picking Festival; International Marathon through picturesque routes with plum blossom valleys, orchards, tea hills... Visitors to Moc Chau can immerse themselves in the lives of farmers, pick fruits by hand, experience production stages, and enjoy fresh agricultural products right in the garden. During the recent April 30 and May 1 holidays alone, the town welcomed more than 50,000 visitors to visit and experience.
Ms. Tran Minh Anh, a tourist from Da Nang, expressed her excitement: The first time I came to Moc Chau, I was really attracted by the fresh air and beautiful landscape. In particular, I learned about the process of planting and caring for plum trees, experienced picking ripe red plums and enjoyed the products made from plums here, which were very delicious.
Not only exploiting the value of fresh fruits and landscapes, many cooperatives and production facilities have invested in machinery and technology to process diverse products, such as plum wine, plum syrup, strawberry jam, dried persimmons, dried bananas... Currently, the town has 39 recognized OCOP products, contributing to raising the brand of Moc Chau agricultural products, bringing visitors meaningful gifts.
With its available potential and advantages, along with clear development orientations, Moc Chau is continuing to turn hillsides and valleys into sweet fruit gardens, attractive tourist destinations, beautifying the prosperous socio-economic picture of Moc Chau plateau.
