Developing 'digital capacity' for students: 'Golden key' in the digital age

Developing “digital competence” is no longer limited to students studying Information Technology but for all training sectors.

Strengthening digital skills for students

Along with the development of the digital age, higher education institutions in the Mekong Delta are promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation; not only in management, but also focusing on implementing digital skills training programs and digital transformation adaptation skills for students.

Most universities in the region have been applying information technology in all stages from enrollment, training management to teaching, with specific roadmaps and strategies. This is to concretize the spirit of Circular 02/2025/TT-BGDDT on Digital Competency Framework for Learners; as well as the Project on Improving Digital Competency for Vietnamese Youth in the period 2022 - 2030 of the Central Youth Union.

In an effort to realize the above goal, the Youth Union - Student Association of Can Tho University has just organized the training program "Improving digital capacity for students" in 2025, attracting the participation of hundreds of students. The program was comprehensively designed with the participation of MSc. Huynh Ngoc Thai Anh - an experienced expert in the field of computer science and communication (School of Information and Communication Technology, Can Tho University).

The main training contents include introducing basic knowledge about digital transformation, digital capacity; digital capacity framework for learners; skills in using digital tools to support learning and working; information security and personal data security. Along with that is training on applying artificial intelligence (AI) in learning and research; implementing an online presence program with the national domain name “id.vn”; instructions on registering the national domain name “id.vn” and some basic website administration operations; providing Canva Pro accounts for participating students...

MSc. Nguyen Thi Kim Phuoc - Secretary of the Youth Union of Kien Giang University added that in recent times, the Youth Union has promoted the mobilization of union members and youth to apply digital transformation; actively equipping them with necessary knowledge and skills, and performing well the activities of the Union, Association and youth movement to adapt to the 4.0 period.

Typically, union members and young people register for identification on VNeID software, register for level 2 identification accounts, register for training and assessment of union members... They continue to innovate, create, apply and apply digital technology in real life, strongly apply digital transformation in the activities and work of the Union as well as in study and work.

To modernize propaganda and management work, Kien Giang University Youth Union has coordinated with the Student Union to organize a training course on "Improving digital capacity in Youth Union - Association work". The program focuses on equipping skills in using file management software to manage text documents, images, videos and audio related to Youth Union work.

In addition, skills in using online platforms to organize events such as online meetings, games; building online communities on social networking platforms Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn to create online communities to interact and share information with members of the Union; using Canva or PowerPoint to design media publications, posters, etc.

Sharing about digital skills for students, Nguyen Bao Ngoc - Marketing major (Can Tho University), said that he and his friends have applied directly to the profession they are studying and preparing for their future career path. Since his second year of university, he has actively sought part-time jobs and collaborators in the field of communications. His work includes taking photos, writing articles, filming, livestreaming and editing videos.

“In the digital age, the Internet, social networks and new technology tools are developing strongly, making traditional marketing methods gradually obsolete. Therefore, I aim to develop according to digital marketing methods.”

Bao Ngoc said she will take advantage of her existing filming, photography, voice-over, and content writing abilities, combined with cultivating knowledge in applying modern, high-tech tools and platforms to effectively approach customers and develop professional skills in the future.

Training highly adaptable human resources

Ms. Le Thi Kim Loan - Vice Principal of Tien Giang University said that equipping digital capacity is an indispensable factor for each individual to achieve success in studying, researching and developing their career. Equipping digital skills is considered a comprehensive and sustainable training strategy, creating a generation of highly adaptable human resources in all professions.

At Tien Giang University, equipping students with digital competencies is carried out comprehensively. “The school has established a Council to develop regulations on digital competency standards and digital competency training content integrated into the university and college training programs in Early Childhood Education,” Ms. Loan shared.

In addition, the school established councils and program development teams to review, update, supplement and adjust the training program and teaching program applicable to course 25. In which, the "Digital Skills" course was built and the digital skills course was integrated into the specialized courses of the majors. Training for students is implemented in two directions: Including in the main curriculum according to regulations and supplementing knowledge through specialized training courses.

“To ensure the quality of teaching and management, the school has organized digital skills training sessions for staff inside and outside the school. At the same time, fully aware of the importance of infrastructure, the school has also invested in facilities to meet all digital transformation requirements,” Ms. Le Thi Kim Loan shared.

In particular, Tien Giang University also organizes digital skills classes for commune and ward officials, making practical contributions to the construction of local digital government and digital society.
