Developing agriculture in a modern direction

Safe vegetable production area in Thieu Hoa town.

In the agricultural development roadmap, Thieu Hoa district strives to basically form a large-scale commodity agricultural production, applying high technology, and building brands for advantageous products by 2025. In particular, the land area accumulated and concentrated for large-scale agricultural production, applying high technology is 650 hectares; there are 20 farms and households applying automation and semi-automatic technology in industrial-scale livestock farming; 60% of livestock and 40% of poultry farming apply high technology....

To achieve the set goals, Thieu Hoa district has soon developed a plan and implementation solutions to have directions to direct communes and towns to guide people to accumulate and concentrate land, bring high-yield and high-quality crops into production, meeting market demand. In addition, it focuses on improving farming techniques; applying synchronous mechanization; producing according to VietGAP standards; using technologies such as drip irrigation, post-harvest preservation; raising livestock and poultry in the direction of biosafety... In concentrated, large-scale agricultural production areas, people focus on applying synchronous mechanization, applying science and technology, so productivity is 20-25% higher or more, economic efficiency is on average 1.5 times higher or more than traditional production. On the other hand, large-scale livestock farms have boldly invested in modern machinery, applied closed-cage technology, and treated waste... To support people and businesses, the district has supported land rental costs, converted crop structures, invested in irrigation infrastructure, intra-field traffic, and automatic irrigation systems... Along with that, promoting the production - consumption linkage of agricultural products between businesses, cooperatives, and farmers; organizing training courses, transferring modern farming techniques, and promoting digital transformation in agriculture.

In Thieu Hoa town, it is not difficult to see greenhouses and net houses growing baby cucumbers, Japanese melons, queen melons... along with large-scale safe vegetable production areas. Here, most people have many years of experience in agricultural production according to VietGAP standards with strict processes, applying modern and automated machinery. Mr. Le Van Tinh, a resident of sub-area 1, said: “Unlike traditional farming, to produce according to the high-tech model, in addition to the invested greenhouse system and automatic irrigation system, the application of scientific and technical measures, crop calendar records... must also be carried out according to the requirements. In addition, most greenhouses are installed with automatic drip irrigation systems using Israeli technology, water is dripped to each tree; fertilizer is mixed with water and then through the drip irrigation system to provide nutrients for the plants to grow”.

Also in Thieu Nguyen commune, Mr. Nguyen Cong Quat, one of the young pioneers in building a modern agricultural model to produce baby cucumbers, said: “To limit the impact of weather, insects, and pests, I boldly installed and tested a smart irrigation system and forecasted and prevented pests. From there, I saved time, reduced labor costs, and improved crop productivity and quality.”

Determining that production value must be increased in a sustainable direction, Thieu Hoa district continues to implement solutions to change awareness, thinking, and traditional small-scale production practices to develop large-scale agricultural commodity production. Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thieu Hoa district, Trinh Duc Hung, said: Currently, the whole district has developed 350 hectares of concentrated organic rice production; nearly 15 hectares of greenhouses and net houses with drip irrigation systems using Israeli technology; 42 hectares of vegetables produced meeting VietGAP standards...

In the coming time, the district will continue to review and develop large-scale agricultural production areas, apply high technology and have investment plans for production areas, such as: Specialized areas for high-yield, high-quality rice production; growing vegetables in greenhouses, greenhouses... In addition, investing in developing infrastructure to serve production, especially the transportation system, irrigation, electricity system... applying modern technological processes in cultivation and livestock farming. In particular, focusing on widely applying advanced technologies in preserving agricultural products, reducing the rate of loss after harvest, such as: Agricultural drying technology; technology for preliminary processing, preserving fresh vegetables, flowers, fruits on a concentrated scale... Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of people's lives and promoting local economic development; successfully implementing the goal of turning local agriculture into a large-scale commodity production industry, with high competitiveness and adaptability to climate change and market trends.
