Developing the amateur music movement, building a team of successors

As one of 21 provinces and cities preserving the Southern amateur music art form, in recent years Hau Giang has paid attention, cared for, and created conditions for the movement to spread.

Honoring the artisans

The artists selected for consideration for the titles this time are exemplary people with many contributions to local ĐCTT clubs.

With their love for art and passion for lighting the fire, the artists have become the core of the clubs, organizing, building, consolidating, and improving the quality of activities, finding and promoting new talents, helping young people approach the art of ĐCTT, and continuing to build a team of successors with sufficient professional qualifications.

In the list of 14 artists proposed to be awarded the title of Meritorious Artist this time, there are 5 instrumentalists and 9 vocalists. These are artists who often appear in the province's amateur music competitions. Among them, artist Nguyen Tinh was honored as Meritorious Artist in 2021, and this time he continues to be proposed to be awarded the title of People's Artist.

From 2019 to present, Hau Giang has prepared a dossier of proposals and 20 ĐCTT artisans have been honored as Meritorious Artisans. Recently, 15 artisans continued to be reviewed for nomination, including 1 Meritorious Artisan proposed for the title of People's Artisan.

This is one of the efforts to add spiritual strength for the artists to dedicate themselves to their passion and responsibility as the ones who preserve and promote this unique art form. The artists whose names are on this list are all very emotional. Before, the artists participated in the music with all their passion, never thinking of being nominated for such a noble title...

Artisan Nguyen Tinh (Hiep Thanh ward, Nga Bay city) shared: “Being offered a higher title, I feel my responsibility is even heavier, to maintain and develop the ĐCTT movement at the grassroots level in particular, and in Hau Giang province in general. I will continue to do my best with all my passion and responsibility.”

Develop the movement, find new factors

Hau Giang has twice developed and issued a Project to protect and promote the value of the intangible cultural heritage of Southern ĐCTT Art in the province, has trained knowledge for Don Ca artisans from basic to advanced; maintained the organization of ĐCTT competitions every year, selected excellent artisans to participate in regional and national competitions..., in order to continue to preserve, honor and promote the traditional art form, actively contributing to the building of cultural life at the grassroots level, gradually enhancing the value of Don Ca Tai Tu art associated with community activities.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized an in-depth workshop on ĐCTT to listen to the opinions of experts and artisans, thereby assessing the overall situation to have a direction for continued preservation and promotion... In addition, the department has directed specialized agencies to support each locality to build at least 1 ĐCTT club to serve tourism. Up to now, 10 clubs have been built and gradually promoted effectively, serving local tourists. In competitions and performances, the cultural sector integrates encouragement for the creation of new amateur songs focusing on introducing local tourism achievements, so that after the competition, they can continue to be used for service.

In particular, in developing the movement and searching for new factors, the cultural sector also directed the organization to build ĐCTT clubs in schools. This is a new step for ĐCTT to spread.

Mr. Le Thanh Vinh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Cultural Center, said: “In 2024, we coordinated with the locality to build 2 ĐCTT clubs at secondary schools in Tan Thanh commune (Nga Bay city) and Long Tri A (Long My town). To be able to build and maintain them is thanks to the enthusiasm and responsibility of local artisans and the potential of the students. This year, we are determined to find and build 3 more clubs, to find new factors and create more conditions and opportunities for ĐCTT to continue to develop”.
