16th meeting of the Vietnam - China Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee

Dien Bien TV - On the afternoon of December 10, Comrade Bui Thanh Son, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi co-chaired the 16th meeting of the Steering Committee for Vietnam - China Bilateral Cooperation. The meeting was held online to the bridge points of the northern border provinces of Vietnam. Attending the meeting at the bridge point of Dien Bien province were Comrade Lo Van Tien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of a number of provincial departments, branches and sectors.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son and Mr. Wang Yi both affirmed: With the joint efforts of both countries, the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and China continues to be maintained stably and has many new developments. Regarding economic cooperation, Vietnam maintains its position as the largest trading partner in the ASEAN region, China's 5th largest trading partner in terms of national criteria. Bilateral import-export turnover in the first 10 months of 2024 reached more than 168 billion USD (up 2.1%).

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to strengthen the direction of all levels, sectors and localities of the two countries to closely coordinate; actively implement high-level agreements and common perceptions, contributing to further deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the community of shared future between Vietnam and China.

The two sides prioritized accelerating the implementation of three standard gauge railway lines connecting Vietnam with China: Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong; Lang Son - Hanoi and Mong Cai - Ha Long - Hai Phong.

In Dien Bien province, over the past year, the cooperative relationship between Dien Bien province and Yunnan province, China has always been maintained, consolidated and developed in all fields. The two sides have created favorable conditions for all levels and sectors to exchange, visit friendship, study, and exchange experiences... Currently, Dien Bien province and Yunnan province (China) have actively discussed and held talks, signed a memorandum of understanding on the official opening of the A Pa Chai - Long Phu bilateral border gate.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two sides continue to increase delegation exchanges; promote cooperation in all fields, especially connecting development strategies, connecting transport infrastructure, economic-trade cooperation, investment, culture, education, and tourism.
