Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Trong Hai worked with the Vietnam Macadamia Association

Attending the working session on Lai Chau province's side were representatives of the leaders of the departments: Agriculture and Environment, Finance, Construction, Industry and Trade, Science and Technology; Provincial People's Committee Office; representatives of leaders and experts monitoring the field; representatives of the People's Committee of Than Uyen commune.

On behalf of the Vietnam Macadamia Association, there were comrades: Duong Cong Chinh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lien Viet Group Joint Stock Company; Nguyen The Thanh - Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Macadamia Association; Pham Van Dung - Director of Lien Viet Lai Chau Joint Stock Company; Duong Gia Lai Chau Joint Stock Company.

Comrade Bui Huy Phuong - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment reported at the meeting.

At the meeting, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment reported on the development of macadamia trees in the area in recent times. Accordingly, up to now, the total area of macadamia trees planted in the province is 7,421 hectares (4,555 hectares of pure planting; 2,866 hectares of intercropping). Of which, the area planted by enterprises under the Vietnam Macadamia Association is 3,295 hectares (pure planting); the area planted by enterprises outside the Vietnam Macadamia Association is 107 hectares (pure planting); in addition, there are a number of enterprises associated with households to implement 491 hectares (intercropping); the area planted by households and individuals is 3,528 hectares (1,153 hectares of pure planting; 2,375 hectares of intercropping).

The area of harvested Macadamia trees is about 1,000 hectares (including pure planting and intercropping with tea). Through the assessment of the growth and development of Macadamia trees in recent years, it can be seen that Macadamia trees are very suitable for the soil, weather and climate conditions of the province; the trees grow and develop well; the area of Macadamia trees from the 5th year onwards has begun to yield fruit, with a high fruit set rate.

Comrade Vuong The Man - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade spoke at the meeting.

The Provincial People's Committee has approved the investment policy for 01 Macadamia processing factory with a total capacity of 500 tons/year. For the Macadamia output harvested in 2025 of enterprises belonging to the Macadamia Association, the enterprises will process and consume the products themselves. For enterprises outside the Association and the People growing them, they can harvest, sell raw or self-process for sale. Macadamia products of Lai Chau province have been recognized as OCOP products, specifically: Truong Giang One Member Co., Ltd. has 02 products achieving 4 stars, including dried Macadamia nuts and Macadamia kernels; Tan Uyen District Youth Union Veterans Association (now Tan Uyen commune, Lai Chau province) has 02 products achieving 3 stars, including Macadamia kernels and Macadamia nuts. The main consumption markets are the provincial and domestic markets.

To encourage the development of Macadamia trees in the area, the Provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 07/2021/NQHDND, dated March 22, 2021, stipulating policies on the development of concentrated commodity agriculture for the period 2021 - 2025. In which, support for land concentration for Macadamia tree development is 6 million VND/ha; total support area is 4,000 ha, each entity is supported with a maximum of 700 ha to attract and encourage enterprises and cooperatives to concentrate on accumulating land to create Macadamia development areas in concentrated areas.

Comrade Duong Cong Chinh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lien Viet Group Joint Stock Company made recommendations at the working session.

Besides, create favorable conditions for companies and enterprises to research, survey and invest, develop Macadamia, process and consume products; strictly manage the production and trade of Macadamia varieties in the province according to the authority and regulations of law.

Currently in Lai Chau province, there are 09 projects to plant Macadamia trees and 01 project to build a Macadamia processing factory that have been approved for investment by Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee.

At the meeting, Mr. Duong Cong Chinh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lien Viet Group Joint Stock Company summarized some results of Macadamia planting in the province in recent times, and at the same time proposed some contents related to the plan to consume Macadamia nuts and the plan to build a preliminary processing factory in the province...

Discussing at the working session, representatives of leaders of departments, branches, and the Vietnam Macadamia Association focused on solutions to improve efficiency in growing, processing, and consuming Macadamia products...

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Ha Trong Hai - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Vietnam Macadamia Association to direct the enterprises under the Association to develop specific plans and arrange capital and human resources to speed up the implementation progress to complete the objectives of the project that has been approved for investment by Lai Chau province. Direct the enterprises under the Vietnam Macadamia Association to produce and supply quality Macadamia varieties to enterprises planting Macadamia in the province.

Comrade Ha Trong Hai - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee delivered a concluding speech at the meeting.

Coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lai Chau province to strengthen guidance, training, transfer of science and technology and processes of caring for and developing Macadamia trees for people, businesses, and cooperatives participating in growing Macadamia, aiming at the goal of building green, clean, and organic agricultural products in the spirit of the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress.

Annually provide fertilizers and materials to the cooperative to ensure uniformity among macadamia growing areas. Continue to protect and care for the planted macadamia area and the newly planted area to increase productivity, output, quality, and competitiveness in the domestic and international markets. At the same time, have a plan to consume macadamia products in the province, invest in building processing factories in the concentrated macadamia growing areas of Lai Chau province.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment and related departments, branches, and communes in Lai Chau province with areas growing Macadamia trees should pay attention to the road system in production areas, giving priority to key production areas, and ensuring inter-commune traffic is multi-purpose.

Regarding the proposal to build a preliminary processing factory, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Trong Hai requested the Association to coordinate with departments, branches and localities to complete legal procedures to ensure compliance with legal regulations, contributing to the consumption and purchase of Macadamia, creating output for products, bringing income to Macadamia growers...
