PSG sets record in Ballon d'Or nomination

PSG became the first team in history to have a total of nine players on the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or award.

Ousmane Dembele is currently the leading candidate for the Ballon d'Or.

According to Opta , this is an unprecedented record in the history of this award. Previously, Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid also dominated the Golden Ball nominations, but no club owned nearly 1/3 of the players in the list of 30 candidates like PSG this year.

The PSG players nominated include: Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma. This strong presence does not stop at the Men's Ballon d'Or category. Many PSG players are also featured in other categories of the award.

For example, Desire Doue and Nuno Mendes are on the 10-man shortlist for the Trophée Kopa – the award for the best player under the age of 21. Meanwhile, Gianluigi Donnarumma is nominated for the men's Trophée Yachine, competing with nine other goalkeepers for the title of best goalkeeper.

Luis Enrique has also been nominated for the Trophée Johan Cruyff, the best coach of the season. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris on September 22. This is the next year the award will be based on achievements over a season, running from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025, instead of a full calendar year as before.
