The decision was made during the second meeting of the Bahrain and Qatar Committee at the headquarters of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Bahrain also made a similar announcement about the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Earlier in January, the Crown Prince of Bahrain had a phone call with the King of Qatar in a move seen as aimed at mending relations between the two Gulf countries.
According to observers, the fact that countries in the region are getting closer together and aiming to improve relations is considered a positive trend, contributing to strengthening peace as well as bringing stability to this oil-rich region.
In mid-2017, Bahrain, along with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt, severed diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism and having a pro-Iranian stance as well as supporting extremist Islamic groups, although Doha firmly denied it.
The blockade has caused hardship for Qatar and angered the Doha government, which filed a lawsuit.
In January this year, the 41st Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) became an "event of reconciliation" when it witnessed Qatar and its neighboring countries signing an agreement to normalize relations, officially ending the worst diplomatic crisis that has lasted for the past 3 and a half years in the region.
