Israeli forces intensified military operations in the northern and southern Gaza Strip on June 28. In Rafah, Palestinian health officials said Israeli tank shelling killed at least 11 people.
The Israeli military said its forces were carrying out “targeted” strikes in the Shejaia neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, adding that its air force had struck dozens of Hamas military targets in the area.
Meanwhile, residents and Hamas media in Gaza said Israeli tanks advanced further west into the Shakoush neighborhood of Rafah, forcing thousands of people sheltering there to leave their tents and evacuate north to Khan Younis.
Earlier, doctors said several Palestinians were killed and injured in the Israeli shelling. Medical forces were unable to reach all the casualties due to fierce fighting. The Israeli army asked residents of surrounding areas in eastern Gaza City to immediately evacuate.
