"Any difficulty can be overcome"
With the tradition of the Vietnam People's Army "complete every mission, overcome every difficulty, and win when deployed", 100 officers, soldiers and 15 vehicles and machines were sent by Military Region 2 to participate in the construction of the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line from June 16 through Vinh Phuc province. After that, this force will continue to expand its mission.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Vu Thanh Tung - Deputy Brigade Commander, Engineer Brigade 543 (Military Region 2), in compliance with the order of the Military Region Commander, officers and soldiers promptly set out to support the construction of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line. This is also an opportunity to train through practical tasks. Although the weather in Vinh Phuc is sunny during the day and rainy at night, and the roads are not synchronized, officers and soldiers have arranged shifts, are not afraid of hardship, and are determined to work with the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) to complete the transmission line project according to the tasks assigned by the Government.
In Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc province, VT370 and VT375 are both located on the “critical path” of the entire 500kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line project. Of which, VT370 is the pole that pulls the wire across the Lo River. With a height of 130m, this is one of the tallest poles in package 8. The pole is “giant”, but the foundation geology is weak rice fields, the process of digging the foundation pit encountered flowing mud, making the construction very complicated and time-consuming.
Meanwhile, VT375 is located on a high mountain, which is also the highest location in the entire package No. 8. The temporary road to the construction site is winding and steep, posing great difficulties for the process of transporting materials and equipment.
Currently, both locations are in the excavation and foundation casting stages. When moving on to the column erection, VT370 will continue to have to solve the problem of assembling large columns, while VT375 will be the “campaign” of transporting columns and materials up the mountain for construction.
Senior Lieutenant Tran Van Quyet, Deputy Battalion Commander of Battalion 1, Air Defense Brigade 297 (Military Region 2) said that when the superiors briefed on the mission, the officers and soldiers were aware that this was a key national project. The entire force was determined to complete the assigned mission excellently and in absolute safety.
Officers and soldiers of Military Region 2 will transport poles, materials and equipment to the construction site, support line clearing and perform tasks according to actual work. During the implementation of the task, Military Region 2 will maintain close coordination with EVN and Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1), regularly update the field situation and construction progress. On that basis, the units will proactively discuss and agree on a plan to arrange support forces in a scientific , flexible and effective manner.
Urgent progress, large workload
The 500kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line project is a national key energy project, of great significance in ensuring the country's energy security. The Prime Minister issued an order to start construction of the entire line on March 16, 2025. According to the Prime Minister's direction in Official Dispatch No. 81/CD-TTg dated June 3, 2025, this project must be inaugurated on August 19, 2025.
By the afternoon of June 16, the entire construction site had 363/468 locations with completed concrete foundation work. Regarding the pole erection work, 146 locations had been installed and were being erected. At the construction site, the wire pulling had begun at some locations.
Progress is urgent, but the workload is still very large and challenging. Mr. Phan Ho Quang - Deputy Director of Power Project Management Board 1 shared: "The rugged terrain, complex geological foundation, and temporary roads with steep slopes make every stage of the work much more difficult. Accelerating the progress has become a challenging problem. In particular, the weather in the Northwest has officially entered the rainy season, the temporary construction road quickly subsided and became muddy, making it impossible for motor vehicles to access, causing the entire supply chain of materials and equipment to stagnate."
Most of the pole locations are located on rugged mountainous terrain, making it extremely difficult to transport bulky equipment such as large steel poles. Some poles even have to be assembled entirely by hand due to the narrow terrain, making it impossible to bring in cranes or mechanical equipment. All of these factors are creating a major obstacle to the overall progress of the project.
"In such a difficult context, the timely support from Military Region 2 is an important factor in helping to overcome difficulties, ensuring safety and overall progress of the entire project. At the same time, it demonstrates the solidarity between the military and the people, and the high sense of responsibility of the armed forces in the development of national energy infrastructure," said Mr. Quang.
Mobilizing the strength of the entire political system to participate in the project is also a successful lesson learned from the "miracle" implementation of the 500kV line 3, Quang Trach - Pho Noi.
All are aimed at the goal of completing and inaugurating the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line on schedule - this will be an important milestone in the journey of modernizing the power transmission infrastructure, contributing to meeting the country's sustainable development requirements in the coming period.
